The Giver Chapter 1 Summary

The singing was distant but they were close enough to hear it. They started to go up the hill which where were they heard the music coming from, the top looked so far but close. Jonas gave gave one of his last happy memories of christmas and opening gifts to keep him from crying. As they reached the top they saw the village down the hill, all lit up. THey saw people everywhere as he started to run down the hill he tripped and started to fall down the hill with Gabe and then Jonas passed out. As Jonas woke up he heard kids laughing out a window. He got up and was in an emergency room, he panicked because Habe was nowhere to be found. As he got up a nurse walked into his room, Jonas asked who she was and she responded with the name Futaba. James suddenly asked where Gabe was and Futaba told Jonas that he was in a different room

She told Jonas that Gabe had caught a dangerous disease and asked what he was doing out in the snow for so long. Jonas explained the story to her and she looked in awe as hearing the story. After telling the story Jonas asked if he could stay at the village with gabe and she immediately said yes. Futaba had to bring Jonas to the main house in the village, as he arrived the man their was curious why Futaba brought Jonas to him. The man asked why she brought him here, She told the man the story and he didn't buy it at first but decided to go with it due to his conditions. He introduced himself and told Jonas his name was Eden, he told Jonas that he's going to live with a new family for a while into he could live on his own. He suddenly told Eden about Gabe and told him that he wasn't going to live without him. Eden agreed to let Gabe live with him and told Jonas that he was going to search for a family immediately.
