In the article of the week The Wrong Way to “Think about California Water” by Michael Hiltzik, Hiltzik explains why we are thinking about California's water the wrong way. He gives several reasons why we are thinking about California's drought the wrong way that seem to significant , but my family can cut back on water usage using these same principles. First, even when he said that water bottles are not the significant causes of water usage they still are a portion of that water usage. A way we could save water is to finish all that water, drink only when we're thirsty, and give any leftover water to the plants, making it a double win. Another way we could save water is to use more drought resistant plants, or fake plants.
Our beautiful 31st state, California, is in a major drought. What is causing the valley to sink more than it ever has in recent years? “Sipping California Dry” authored by Matt Richtel, goes beyond the issues at hand by interviewing the farmers themselves, detailing exactly what is happening in the golden state with pictures that show just how bad it is in California. This drought is a real issue, and the author works very hard to bring to light certain aspects of it that we may not know about in a detailed, informative way.

But going back to the states those that were hit the hardest like Oklahoma, Texas. Kansas, Colorado, California as well as Texas, Kansas, Colorado and portions of New Mexico were devastated. This was because of the state’s economic base which explains why some states got hit harder than others. From this it started what I call a ripple effect, which increased emigration of people to other countries for the first time in American history. From this America lost a lot of their workers that would no longer bring back money into the economy.
I agree with David Sedlak’s message, “4 Ways we can Avoid a Catastrophic Drought,” because it was not only what he said but also the way he presented it. He used things like examples and graphs during his presentation. The four ways that he came up with were so well thought out that it would be hard to not understand what he wanted to do. Now I am not really sure if his plans will work but the facts that were presented by him were so full proof to me that it kind of takes the thought of “if it will work” away. The only thing that I did not hear him talk about was the way he was going to carry out the plans he had; I am not sure if I just did not hear it or read it

The water was provided from the Owen 's Lake. The farmers and ranchers of Owen 's Valley didn 't give up their water rights easily. Fred Eaton and William Mulholland both used lies and a series of trickery and strategies to convince the farmers to give their water to Los Angeles.
Biodiversity is the variety of life in the world. Biodiversity is important everywhere because it is a resource in which all living organisms and future generation organisms depend on. It is important to California because California has many different bioregions. If California did not have biodiversity in its bioregions, one animal would have to adapt to all the different regions. By adapting, it would have to live off the land and eat its own species.
The Gold Rush's Effects on California The state of California contains an abundance of resources in its land. But only one of its resources sent the whole country running over. That one resource is gold! This event would be one of the biggest in U.S. history and would change the United States forever.
A drought is a prolonged period of unusually low rainfall and its severity depends on the strength and duration. Persistent high pressure in the atmosphere curbs cloud formation and leads to lower relative humidity and less precipitation. In 2011, Texas underwent the worst single-year drought in its history. During this drought, Texas saw the highest number of fires, square miles burned, homes destroyed, drought-related deaths and agricultural losses in years. This drought encouraged the state to come up with a Water Plan.
Drought has hit California hard. There is barely any more water remaining, “the Golden State has depleted its water resources so much that it 'll all be gone in about one year”(Jay Famiglietti). This NASA scientist used satellites to figure out that most of our water sources are completely depleted. A few weeks ago, there was a huge fire called “The Valley Fire which scorched more than 76,000 acres across Lake, Napa and Sonoma counties, killed four civilians, injured four firefighters and destroyed nearly 2,000 buildings”(Kale Williams). The Valley Fire grew so fast, since there was a terrible amount of dry brush and trees, which easily caught the whole area on fire, and that’s also how the fire grew 10,000 acres over a few hours.
In the serious informational text, “California’s Drought Ripples Through Businesses, Then to Schools”, by npr.org, published on 4/20/14, speaks from a farmer’s view, about how the drought is affecting schools and businesses, informing people worried about the drought affecting the economy. For instance, in the article it states, “ With less water, farmers are fewer big purchases, following hundreds of thousands, of acres and hiring fewer farm laborers. All of this they’re putting less money into the local economy.” As a result, without water for farming the crops will die off and farmers will send out less crops for stores. So, then those stores will have less products and soon shut down.
Great Plains Daily Locust Attack: As harvest time is coming close, many farmers are preparing for it, drying out wheat and preparing cattle to be transferred. Everything was going well for the farmers of the Great Plains, they might even have a good season. Then, a large dark cloud appeared, covering the sun, locusts. Some say you could hear them before you saw them, their loud screeches being heard. Something wrong was going to happen, we just didn’t know it yet.
