Among the history of mankind, there were many human civilizations. The passion of the citizen affects the sustainability of the civilization and the pace of development. If the people only concerned about themselves, civilization could hardly sustain and develop. This lead to a discussion that what passion is the most important to the country. Bertrand Russell, a famous philosopher, introduced three passions: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. In this essay, I will explain the reasons that the unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind is the most important passion for human civilization while considering with sustainability and development. This will be asserted by demonstrating how it helps to construct a peaceful society and by showing how it contributes to social development

The longing of love meant the love towards others including parents, siblings or even stranger. It is good for the civilization to sustain as they love everyone, the war would not happen while there is no conflict. There is love between people, but this cannot give the society a passion to pursue knowledge. For the search for knowledge, it meant to the passion to investigate about culture, technology. It benefits the civilization to develop, as the accumulation of knowledge keeps increasing. But it cannot help to promote the peacefulness among human, which cannot avoid war to happen.
