The argument about erecting a fence arose because of the illegal immigration, drug smuggling, and further security violations happening along the border, which has increased over the years. More attention to this issue popped up after 9/11. This event led to a strong demand to fortify America’s borders more, thus making the notion of better security along the Mexican border one of the forefront matters on the minds of many officials. Liberals/Progressives tend to believe that Border Patrol should remain hundreds of miles away from border, and that the border stay open without a wall.
