Deriving from her childhood, Abigail Williams seeked the attention and affiliation she never received as young girl. From this she was the prime reason for the hysteria and problems arousing from her town. She manipulated, lusted, and used her evil desires to send 19 innocent people to their deathbed all for her own satisfaction. She never attempted to mend the broken relationships she caused because she knew there was no turning back from her actions. She was suffocating from the problems amended by her own actions, which is why she maintained her bad reputation.

I disagree with Winona Ryder when she says Abigail Williams isn't the villain of “The Crucible.” To begin with, she is the villain because she does everything for herself and would sacrifice someone else quickly and it wouldn't affect her. Specifically because she lied about John Proctor’s wife to try and get John. Abigail lying on John’s wife makes her seem bad because Elizabeth got her in trouble and got John executed to try and get John to like her. Another, reason I believe that is she threatened the girls lives if they spoke about them dancing in the woods.
Abigail is clearly the villain of the story, as she is selfish, vengeful, and manipulative. She feels no remorse for her actions. whereas Elizabeth tends to act more in a socially acceptable manner, and feels some sort of guilt for trying to cover and protect her husband. But it is John who carries the fatal flaw; his affair with Abigail.
Abigail defies all judgements against innocence as she is the driven evil force in The Crucible. Arthur Miller shows Abigail Williams to instinctively defend herself, as it is the humane reaction when accused of wrongdoing. It is common to tell a lie but, the intention of sabotage is a different story. Abigail had many tricks up her sleeve to manipulate the court. Her purpose to convince the town of her innocence was one of many.
Abigail Williams is one of the main characters that tend to lack integrity due to her selfishness and dishonesty. She lies about her involvement with the witches of Salem to save herself from being thrown in jail or even put to death. She also lies her way throughout the play to form a type of podium showing that she is on top. One way she showed this was when she blamed innocent people for these horrible acts in Salem. In one part during the trial abigail says “ No one was naked!
The more people she killed, the less it meant to her. The town started to realize the horror taking place--even some of the girls. But Abigail no longer had any consideration for her sins and continued to persecute more and more innocent people. Abigail Williams proved to be the most heinous character throughout the entirety of the play. Her actions were not justifiable in any way.
Abigail Williams is not your typical teenage girl. She is a girl that will drink blood to kill someone, accuse people of witchcraft, and have a affair. She’s the woman who holds grudges, is selfish, and a great liar. Abigail seems to be especially gifted at spreading destruction and chaos wherever she goes. She is able to manipulate others, for example, all her friends and the whole town. In addition, she obtains control over all of them and sends nineteen uninvolved people to their deaths.
