Langston Hughes was known for being one of the most favored, if not the most favored, African-American poet and short story writers of the twentieth century. Hughes was influential for writing about the everyday struggles, racial injustices, and dreams of the African-American men and women during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920’s. By saying grand griefs, Brooks is relaying the idea that there are certain griefs that are felt by humans as a species, and not each one as an individual. Similarly, in his poem, Frederick Douglass, Hayden states, “When it is finally ours, this freedom, this liberty, this beautiful and terrible thing, needful to man as air, usable as earth”(p.1067 lines 1-4). Cullen’s goal in life was to be an iconic and literary figure for blacks during difficult times like the Harlem Renaissance. Countee Cullen was born March 30, 1903 in Louisville Kentucky (Early-About 1). His grandmother was his guardian until she died in 1918. At this time, he was adopted into the home of Reverend Frederick A. Cullen and Carolyn Belle Cullen (Overview 1; Shucard 1). Frederick had established and been the pastor of Salem Methodist Episcopal Church.
There weren’t just blacks, but whites came to hear his speech too. By now Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech is having an impact. In Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech “I Have A Dream” the theme that if everyone is unified to speak up for equality, the results can bring them to freedom, hope, and racial equality which is revealed in this speech through repetition, allusion, and imagery. The poetic device repetition is used to show that freedom will come, if they are unified. King uses repetition to express that freedom still hasn’t appeared in a long time, for this to happen they must act now.
Both, race-conflict approach and multiculturalism, coincide with each other in the way that they explain the importance of equality among all races in the United States. They both focus on social conflict and diversity within this melting pot of a country. Race and culture encourage two diverse ideas, however they share similar goals of broadening people’s knowledge on the importance of other cultures contributions in the Americas and around the world. Equally, they share views and strong opinions on how the English way of life is not the only way people need to abide by anymore. In which, everyone is entitled to live the way there culture does without any outside dictatorship.
Martin Luther King Jr., he states that the nation has to work together and be equal in order to truly reach the freedom that everyone wants. In the speech, King states, “With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day” (King 10). This is explaining the fact that in order for the nation to truly live up to its name and have freedom, it requires that everyone can be equal and can work together without having hatred towards each other. This is therefore demonstrating the fact that the nation must let everyone be equal in order to truly be known as a nation that is free.
The rights theory is another principle that is relevant to this case. Under the rights theory, most people believe that we are entitled to basic rights, life, liberty, free speech, etc. Cathy was entitled to use his right to freedom of speech. Almost all theorists agree that rights should be respected and people should have them. However, a counter to this claim is that those who wish may within their same sex should also have that right.

The audience can now understand that indiscriminately laws are implemented in workplaces today; for it is through the Civil Rights Act that all employers must treat all employees with the same level of respect as any other American.
