The reason why the Union ultimately won the Civil War was because the Union and its leaders, despite Stoker’s harsh criticisms, considered strategy way more than the Confederacy did. Stoker points out that at the beginning of the Civil War, Lincoln began to consider how he was going to win. Despite more of Stoker’s very harsh criticisms at the very end of the book on Lincoln’s strategic ability outside of politics. As you know being in an army could be quite difficult for soldiers. Both Union soldiers and Confederate soldiers train everyday and do certain duties to get ready for the American Civil War. However, there are huge differences between the two armies. Before the war started, most of the soldiers from both North and South had been farmers. If the Southerners did not farm they either became carpenters, mechanics, merchants, machinist, lawyers, teachers, blacksmiths, or a dentist.
Now four long years later after the war, the North has won the Civil War, there were many key factors to the resulted to the defeat of the Confederacy they were not fully equipped with the right tools for success and an army that wasn’t properly trained. The confederacy had internal conflict with the slaves, they wanted to have their freedom and not have to fight against the other side that wants to give them rights. The Confederacy had 1/3 the population of slaves who wanted to be free and not have to keep being treated badly. There were many ways that the Union army had the confederates at an advantage. The key factors that led to the Union is they were well prepared and had the resources in order to defeat the Confederacy.
The North had beaten the South in the Civil War. The North won the war for many reasons; they had some advantages over the South, a great leader, and the desire to win. The North and South fought many battles before the Civil War ended. Each battle had a different outcome and some encouraging the fight and some ended in despair.
While the union armed force was much bigger their absence of combat zone experience added to the misfortune which likewise addresses General Grant's lack of common sense. Farmer’s article goes on to state that the North or the Union did indeed have more manpower, weapons, food and just more of what was needed to fight in a war. By having the manpower to fight and to build equipment need and grow food needed for the Union to fight the Civil War.

Winning the battles of Vicksburg and Gettysburg caused a huge turn in the war, in favor of the North. From then on, Grant and Sherman began winning battles in Tennessee Mississippi. They work together as Grant creates strategy and Sherman is the upfront commander.
To make an assumption that either style of fighting is more superior, even knowing them, is going to be highly opinionated. The truth is that either style could win you a battle if other standards are met. Certain factors include, the morale of the troops, how well your men respect your leadership, and what enemy you’re facing, and the list goes on and on. The Union’s style of fighting derived mainly from the Anglo-Saxon style of fighting.
The union was superior to the confederacy in almost every way they could they had better factories, a lot more soldiers, and incredibly advanced technology.
