The demise of Romeo and Juliet can be directly blamed upon society ideas and ideals of individuals surrounding them. While Romeo and Juliet killed themselves, this could have been prevented if not for others' morals. The idea of dueling to preserve one's image or family's image with one’s own life is an old idea present through Romeo and Juliet. This was presented when Mercutio was slain because he stood in for a duel of honor between Tybalt and Romeo. Ideals such as Honor Culture are a small part of what society can do with the dominant cultural expectations and political authority. If not for different ideals, Romeo and Juliet could have been a comedy, love story, a family feud, and many other genres.
This story isn’t shaped out of the necessity of choice and is based more upon the desire of people in it. When Tybalt had killed Mercutio in a duel Romeo wasn’t in any danger with Tybalt fleeing the scene. Romeo’s morals/ideals showed his desire for revenge …show more content…

Some may argue that “Romeo and Juliet killed themselves, it's their fault they are dead.”. Friar Lawrence went through with the secret wedding but his intention was to help both families settle their feud by making them one family. The nurse also played the role of helping both Romeo and Juliet meet in secret and get married in secret without the family's knowledge ruining their chances with Paris wanting to marry Juliet. Benvolio and Mercutio played a role in the meeting of the two lovers by allowing Romeo to sneak into the Capulet's party which also led to the death of Mercutio. All of the actions taken by Romeo and Juliet could have been prevented if the others surrounding them didn't help. Such as the death of Romeo and Juliet could have been prevented if Friar Lawrence didn't suggest this idea, The family didn't force arranged marriage on Juliet, or The Nurse didn't make Juliet not want to be a part of the
