Throughout the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee makes use of the first-person narrative by using Scout Finch. She starts out as a six-year-old girl who cannot fully understand what the older characters mean when they speak. This can make the novel quite comical or sometimes frustrating. Although Harper Lee using Scout as the first-person narrative throughout the story gives the readers a first-hand look on the events, her age makes her naïve of some of the crucial events which does not allow the reader to fully understand what happens.
