During the early days of World War II, one of the most miraculous battles, the Battle of Dunkirk occurred. As Great Britain and the Allied forces were trapped on the Western Front of France, Germany was circling and trapping the forces. The British were left with no option but to evacuate their army by sea. On May 26, British began the withdrawal called Operation Dynamo (Source A). Hundreds of civilian boats raced to Dunkirk in efforts to save the soldiers.
The book Night, is very upsetting to most people, but it talks about an actual view of somebodies experience in World War Two, and how things actually were. World War Two, was the most destructive conflict in history. It lasted from 1939-1945, Adolf Hitler (the Leader of the Nazi’s) was determined to pretty much invade Poland, and they did. Two days later, France and Britain declared war on Germany. That is when the war broke out.
This is also known as the battle of the Bulge. The battle consisted of the loss of about 200,000 soldiers total. Eventually this led to the victory of the Allied forces. Without this siege the Axis powers may have eventually won World War II. Later on the United States plots a plan after s attack on Pearl Harbor.
The Battle of the Marne, “Miracle of the Marne” was the battle that ended with the Germans retreating, thus drawing an end to the german victory in France/Europe. French soldiers where told to attack at all costs as the German soldiers where on their last leg, severely exhausted by all the marching and lack of supplies. Eighteen days into the Battle

The Battle of Vimy Ridge was a very successful battle not only for the Allies but, for the Canadian army. The Battle of Vimy Ridge took place in April 1917 in France. The battlefield gave Germany the upper hand as their trenches were located on a hill. Therefore giving Germany a commanding view of the British trenches and troops. Britain and France had tried on countless occasions to capture the area, however they were forced back by German artillery.
The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the bloodiest battles of World War Two. Iwo Jima had air stips that both the United States and the Japanese wanted to help them during World War Two. This battle did not end up going exactly as planned for either country. Both countries had their own strategy but neither succeeded. The Battle of Iwo Jima is an important battle to know about when discussing World War Two.
General Patton, in the Battle of the Bulge exercised the principles of mission command to the fullest and they yielded significantly great results for the Allied forces. General Patton employed each of the principles in different ways in order to ensure that the German surprise attack did not significantly set back the Allied forces in the war. The exercise of mission command allows a commander to conduct military operations and missions through dispersed execution. According to Army Doctrine Publication (ADP) 6-0, Mission Command, the definition of mission command is “the exercise of authority and direction by the commander using mission orders to enable disciplined initiative within the commander’s intent to empower agile and adaptive leaders in the conduct of unified land operations”. General Patton exhibited four of the mission command principles extremely well during the Battle of the Bulge.
On June 6, 1944, the Battle of Normandy began. This day, also known as D-Day, would go down in history for making a tremendous impact on the war. The German and American forces fought hard, inflicting injuries beyond compare (G1). Many people were highly dedicated to fighting for their country, resulting in many lost lives (C1). Many Americans were so determined that they actually swam into German fire to fight on the coast of France (F1).
The European and Pacific Theatre There were many battles in World War II, all of them being important and having different outcomes. Two main theaters we are focusing on are going to be the European Theatre where the Invasion of Normandy took place, along with the Pacific Theatre where the Attack on Pearl Harbor occurred. Both events had major impacts on the outcome of World War II, along with all the other battles we encountered. If ether of these battles turned out differently, America may not have become the amazing beautiful place it is today. The battle of Pearl Harbor occurred early morning in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 7, 1941.
World War II began on September 1st, 1939, and shook the world to its core. The people of Britain were far from the action, but very soon things took a turn for the worse. The German army had conquered Europe by using a strategy called Blitzkrieg. Blitzkrieg is German for “lightning warfare” and the British shortened the word to just “Blitz”.

Patton (1885-1945) began his military career leading cavalry troops against Mexican forces and became the first officer assigned to the new U.S. Army Tank Corps during World War I. Promoted through the ranks over the next several decades, he reached the high point of his career during World War II, when he led the U.S. 7th Army in its invasion of Sicily and swept across northern France at the head of the 3rd Army in the summer of 1944. Late that same year, Patton’s forces played a key role in defeating the German counterattack in the Battle of the Bulge, after which he led them across the Rhine River and into Germany, capturing 10,000 miles of territory and liberating the country from the Nazi regime. I find WWII to be one of the most interesting wars of the 20th century, and is still important and interesting in the 21st century as well. Not only that, but the Second World War was also a very bloody war resulting in between 60,000,000 and 85,000,000 deaths and about six million Jews were killed in this war as well. Adolf Hitler is one of the most notorious men known throughout history his victim rate is put at 30 million, he also wanted to create a "Lebensraum" which translates to "living space" Hitler wanted to take back land that was taken from the Germans from the treaty of Versailles and the Fourteen points. It seems that the biggest loser in WWI was Germany because they took so many great blows to their nations pride, ego and land
