While the north was becoming increasingly industrial, with factories and mills popping up all over, the southern states stayed with family farming, and plantations. With the conquest of the north came their ideologies, including factories. Rhett once again realized this when he told Scarlett about the decline of the Old South. Abolishing slavery was not Abraham Lincoln 's main goal of the Civil War, but in a way he did on the down low. The north being against slavery and the south supporting it was the main cause for the division which caused the war.
In Lincoln 's inaugural speech he said "This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their 'constitutional ' right of amending it or they are 'revolutionary ' right to dismember or overthrow it"(Abraham Lincoln 's First Inaugural Address). The 12th of April 1861, the Civil War began. There were many conflicts between the two sides. Many believe it was a fight for the rights and freedom of slaves, so what was the main cause of the Civil War was the issue of states rights and the preservation of the Union than rather than the issue of slavery.
Do you think Abraham Lincoln assassination was unjust or do you think his assassination was just? I believe the assassination of Abraham Lincoln was unjust because he opposed slavery and was a good leader however some believe he is what started the civil war that cost the North and South to fight each other. President Lincoln was a good leader.Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president he was the first republican president to win the election. Many were impressed that Lincoln won the Republican party presidency. He was born poor in a log cabin in Kentucky in 1809. He was a self taught man and was a soldier for a while.
Then Tocqueville surprised me even more. He could tell that we were on our way to civil war. I don’t recall anyone in American telling us we were going to enter the bloodiest conflict in American history if we didn’t change how we treated our slaves. But Tocqueville looked at that relationship and realized that if the South continued to own slaves and treat them like pack-animals then at some point, someone was going to break. I find it a little insulting that a foreigner, who stayed in America all of 9 months, was able to detect a brewing conflict that we were blind to.
Not everyone was happy, but it brought happiness to a lot of families. On 1863 he also signed the Emancipation of proclamation that freed all slaves from confederacy. On 1864 Lincoln won the re-election as the military union wanted to end the civil war. Sadly this all ended when Abraham lincoln was assassinated at Ford 's Theatre in Washington by John Wilkes. The whole country grieved the death of President Lincoln, he was buried Oak Ridge Cemetery, located in Springfield, Illinois.
Lasting from 1861 to 1865, the Civil war was on of the bloodiest wars in the American history. This war was no surprise, a war that had been slowly and seemingly been anticipated. Many events took place within the years leading up to the Civil War that indicated the ultimate secession of the “cotton states” from the Union. While slavery was a component in the disagreements that led to the war and the majority theories regarding the causes of the war were in relation to slavery, it was not the true solitary or the true source. The root causes that contributed were the economic and social divergence between the South and the North, state vs. national rights, and the Supreme Court’s decision in the Dred Scott Case.
Lincoln 's views at this time were politically motivated, and they focused on ending the war and preserving the Union. He felt that Southerners shouldn’t be allowed to split the nation or to further beliefs that did not support human freedom and equality for all citizens. Lincoln carried on war for four years in support of the position that the issue of slavery shouldn’t be allowed to end the Union. In January 1863 Lincoln formed his final position on slavery when he signed the Emancipation Proclamation which declared, "that all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be
With no final agreement, the country had no other choice but to go to war with itself. The slow decline of the, once powerful, Southern economy and the major issue of the abolishment of slaves are what led to the cause of the American Civil War. While economics and political structure played an important role in the cause of the Civil War, slavery was the main reason why altercations arose. Many historians and teachers try to hide the fact that slavery was such a huge factor in the cause of the Civil War because they looked at slavery as the “norm”. To them, the differences between the Republicans and Democratic formed great disagreement.
The Importance of the Civil War The Civil War was important for many different reasons. It was the start of the end of slavery and it would help to preserve the union. The war started when the north and south had been fighting and arguing over politics and laws. Each wanted something different. Before the Civil War Officially began Lincoln was elected president of the United States.
Civil war was one of the bloodiest and destructive wars in American history. It was defined as the war between the states. This war brought many positive and negative changes to America which resulted in many consequences. When Abraham Lincoln became the first republican president who was against the concept of slavery, many southern states separated and formed a new nation. Abraham’s promise was that he would not allow the United States to be broken down to small, squabbling countries.
