As a part of the Indian Removal Act of 1830, Native American people were forcefully assembled and made to endure one of the longest walks from Georgia to Oklahoma on what has become known as the Trail of Tears. Unlike many writers of the time documenting the events of the Northwest encounters with hostile natives are not livened up with extraordinary details in order to portray the White man beating back the savages of the are in order to establish civilization. Knowing the dangers they faced during their time working for the Pacific Company, Ross seemed to understand the idea that this was the Natives land and by commencing excursions inland they faced their fair share of danger. During a particularly dangerous moment in which Ross’ party of seven made an excursion to the North they came face to face with a hostile group of Native. When describing the event Ross does not use over-exhausting descriptions of the insurmountable odds and dangers the party faced in order to make himself and his colleagues look brave in the face of danger. Instead, he describes their retreat, “their forces were collecting fast; every moment's delay increased our danger; and, fearful of being surrounded, we were deliberating on a hasty retreat, when, fortunately, a friendly Indian happened to arrive, by means of whom we got into conversation with the others; and the result was, that they explained and cleared up the matter to our utmost
Wallace informs the readers of the struggle Chief John Ross faced. Ross was an educated white man who was only part Cherokee, but still lived on their land and became a very influential man. Previously, the government had told the Natives that if they “civilized” themselves then they would be safe on their land. This meant adopting Christianity, having a constitution, and other things that would make them common white men. Ross had fought with Jackson against the Creek Indians, this being a major reason for his later influence over the Cherokee Nation.

Williams believed in equality, so when he witnessed the Native Americans being disrespected, he was quick to react. This new author wrote a book called, “A Key into the Language of America.” This book introduced the Native American’s perspective.

Indian Removal Act In 1838, sixty two years after the United States declared independence, white settlers have been pushing into Georgia which was originally the Native Americans land (more specifically the Cherokee tribe’s land). So, the president at the time, Andrew Jackson, created an act called the Indian Removal Act. But, the Native Americans actually took the act to the supreme court and it was declared unconstitutional, although the president didn’t listen. He eventually (somehow) got the act through anyway and all of the Native Americans were forced to leave Georgia on a trail called the trail of tears.
President Andrew Jackson signed The Indian Removal Act on May 28, 1830 allowing for the forced removal and relocation of the native indigenous people of the eastern United States, but representatives of the Cherokee nation would try to legally resist the unjust removal from their ancestral land. Cherokee Chief, John Ross, fought long and hard against Jackson’s removal policy, taking the fight for Cherokee rights all the way to the Supreme Court, but to no avail. By May of 1838, the removal deadline, approximately sixteen thousand Cherokee Indians were forced from their homeland and made to head west for reservations located on the Great Plains. In the letter, the Cherokee nation addresses several reason on why they should not have to move. One reason is that the new land if foreign to them. They are being expected to pack up, leave everything they know, and move to the unknown. Another reason to add on to the above is that there are other Native American tribe already
The Ups and Downs of the Cherokee Tribe Did you know that the Cherokee Nation is one of only three federally recognized tribes that has the sovereign right to control their nation? That means that they have the right to control what goes on within their nation, despite the states government. Although the tribe may be doing well today, that hasn’t always been the case. The Cherokee Tribe had to overcome many obstacles and heartaches. Shortly after the first Cherokee entered the state in the vicinity of Travelers Rest in 1450, the Cherokees were put through many challenging times.
This historical document was written by Private John G. Burnett. Burnett’s diary entry was written on December 11, 1890. The years of the diary were during his journey through the Trail of Tears between 1828 and 1839. Burnett was a reserved person who was just fine with being by himself for weeks at a time. As he hunted more and more, he became acquainted with many of the Cherokee Indians who grew to eventually become his friends.
As the Shawnees were attempting to reunite in the Ohio Valley, they found themselves displaced and had to defend their territory from western expansion. Take Back Our land: Tecumseh Speech to the Osages “We must be united” was the plea from Tecumseh to the Osage tribe. In 1811, Tecumseh, known as the “Greatest Indian”, gave a speech pleading with the Osage tribe that they should unite together to fight against the white man (Tecumseh, 231). He goes on to tell how they had given the white man everything they needed to recover health when they entered their land but in return the white man had become the enemy. The speech to the Osages by Tecumseh illustrates the dangers of the white men to the Indian tribes, and why the tribes should unite together against the white man.
Edgar Allan Poe was a genius before his time, and his riveting works are immortalized in the hearts and minds of his readers. For hundred of years, adults and children alike have been intrigued by Edgar Allan Poe’s stories. Many of Poe’s works differ from one another especially, “William Wilson” and “The Tell-Tale Heart”. Although it may seem like there are more similarities between the two works, their differences are much more significant. “William Wilson” and “The Tell-Tale Heart s”’most of the tremendous differences are found within characters, conflicts, and themes.
“It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me day and night.” This is said by the narrator in “The Tell-Tale Heart.” Once evil enters the mind and is welcomed and given permission to rule, it will control and direct one's actions. The theme in both “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Masque Of Red Death” is death, whether it be intentional by humans or inevitable because of mortality. The similarities and differences in these stories are they both have death that kills innocent people, one story is more realistic and the other symbolizes death, and lastly both stories have people imagining something.
