During the first phase of the revolution, new faces began to influence Mexican society and Francisco Madero emerged as the leader. Madero’s anti-reelection slogan resonated with many Mexicans and eventually led them to respond to his call to arms. This response from the nation affected the current political system as Diaz fell to the revolutionaries and this shift in power caused Mexicans to be more politically active as they could now vote in elections that were more fair than they had previously been under the Porfiriato. The new leaders of the revolution (Emiliano Zapata, Pascual Orozco, and Pancho Villa) affected society at the time as they fought for the ideals that they believed to be right.
The story “The Red Umbrella” written by Christina Diaz Gonzalez and the photograph by José Hernández-Claire both have the same subject. That subject is Separation. This subject is a big topic in both the story and the photograph because it literally revolves around separation. Even though they have something in common; and in “The Red Umbrella”, the kids are being separated from their parents and being brought to the U.S so that they can live a better life and so that they are safe. there is also something different about the story such as the techniques that make it easier to show the subject.

Spanish conquistadors involved in the journey to explore Florida consisted of Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca, Andrés Dorantes, Alonso del Castillo, and Estebanico Dorantes. The goal of journeying to Florida was mainly to bring treasure that was said to have been found in the Native Americans lands in Rio de las Palmas, México. This occurred multiple times around the world, some included in the countries France; The French Revolution, Mexico; The Mexican revolution, China; The Chinese Revolution, Russia; The Russian Revolution, and many others around the globe. As both French and Mexican revolutions fought for independence and to convert to a modern world government, they both were concerned with inequality with the lower classmen. The French Revolution fought to end monarchy establishment, while the Mexican Revolution fought to end dictatorship and to establish a constitutional republic.
In Mariano Azuela’s novel of the Mexican Revolution, The Underdogs, Azuela writes about character that were influenced by the Mexican Revolution. The main character and protagonist is a man by the name of Demetrio Macias. Macias, his wife, and their young son stayed on a farm until the Federale soldiers came. Macias was forced to abandon his family and meets with a group of rebels along the way of his travel to fight President Huerta. Macias and his men are following the legendary Francisco “Pancho” Villa, who is the most important revolutionary leader from northern Mexico (Azuela XI).

In “Only Daughter” by Sandra Cisneros, she describes a series of events throughout her life that all relate to her relationship with her father. Cisneros begins her story by talking about how she was seen as “only a daughter”. She then transitions to talking about her education and her father’s opinion on what it is for and worth. Cisneros then ends it with a conclusion between her and her father which involved one of her stories. Throughout the story, Cisneros talks about what she believed her father thought about her and her career choices, and they turn out to be a bit different than what she thought.
Sonia Nazario’s book Enrique’s Journey follows a young man on his journey from the Honduras to the United States in search of his mother, who left when he was only five years old, in hopes of providing a better life for her children. Throughout the novel, Nazario recounts the struggles that Enrique faced along the way, both physical and mental. Enrique made eight attempts to get to the United States, enduring several beatings, days without food, fear of corrupt local authorities, and the perils of riding aboard a dangerous train for hundreds of miles. In the end, he must overcome these obstacles, as well as his own vices and internal struggles, to finally see his mother.
Gloria Anzaldúa’s “La Prieta” tell her struggles with identity by talking about prejudices she dealt with while growing up. These prejudices, such as colorism, sexism, and heteronormativity, were not only held by people outside her social groups but within them as well. Anzaldúa goes on to explain the way identity is formed by intersecting factors and not only one aspect of someone’s life therefore denying one factor of identity can cause isolation and self-hatred. The fact that Anzaldúa developed faster than is deemed normal the first struggle in forming her identity.

He uses Aura, Felipe Montero, and Consuelo as a reflection of the past and the present, where for example, Consuelo represents the past and Felipe the present. In this paper I will explain how the love story of Felipe, Aura, and Consuelo represent Mexican history. In addition this paper will explain how myth breaks down into different elements, such as religion, legends, traditions, and beliefs, all of which are manifested in the different characters and their actions within this novel.
The Story of the Vargas Family “Rosa Vargas’ kids are too many and too much. It’s not her fault, you know, except she is their mother and only one against so many” (Cisneros 29). In the novel The House on Mango Street, the author, Sandra Cisneros, touches on the many negative consequences of a single, impoverished mother raising an overwhelming amount of children. Poverty, discrimination, parental and neighborly responsibility, and respect are all issues and social forces that act upon the family; their presence or lack thereof cause several grisly occurrences to take place. Poverty was almost like a curse given to Rosa Vargas by her husband, who “left without even leaving a dollar for bologna or a note explaining how come” (29).
