Black Reparations For Slavery Rhetorical Analysis

Reparations for slavery is an ongoing debate, the idea that descendants of Africans who had been enslaved by the Atlantic Slave Trade should receive a compensatory payment is ridicules to many. Author Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote “The Case for Reparations”, and he argues that the idea of reparations is what is important. Coates begins building his argument with personal facts and reliable sources, overall successfully creating an emotional appeal to his readers. Throughout his article he builds a strong argument arguing that we need to start considering what the nation might owe the African American population after everything that’s been done to them. Throughout his article his attempts to appeal to the readers emotions helps build his argument against reparations.

The purpose of this paper is to explain why or why not slavery reparations should be paid. Reparations should not be paid in present day America because it is economically unfeasible and will create a bigger racial divide in the country. Are slavery reparations supposed to heal the pain of what happened years and years ago? No matter what, slavery will always be the biggest impact towards Africans, and paying money to those who never experienced the time will be nonessential. If there "were" to be reparations paid, it would be pretty clear that the descendants of slaves would be paid, obviously.

Analyzing “The Case for Reparations” by Ta-Nehisi Coates The past is the past, but sometimes the past comes back and bites us on the butt. In Ta-Nehisi Coates’s article, “The Case for Reparations”, Coates describes the wrongful acts done by white supremacists towards African-Americans. Throughout his article, Coates provides strong logos and pathos to his argument. The one issue that he fails to discuss is ethos or credibility towards his argument.

As we examine the mending topic of slavery reparations, it is essential remember the reason why repairing the negative consequences done to the all the different minorities who have experienced discrimination can do more harm than good. The best method is to help set up a better future for by insuring that money is spent on improving their lives through education and job opportunities. Race Was Invented To Justify Slavery Once people are defined as inhuman because of the color of their skin, you are free to treat them like animals. This is exactly what happened to blacks in America. The first blacks who arrived in Virginia where from Europe, not Africa. They came to Virginia in 1619 and were not initially considered slaves.

According to Slavery and Public History by James Olivier Horton, the collective memory of slavery in the United States has often neglected in creating a full narrative of the past. The painful and unflattering practice of slavery has been thoroughly neglected and misrepresented. Consequently, there is a divided collective memory of slavery amongst Whites and Blacks in the United States. While Black Americans remember the event with great pain, Whites do not acknowledge the harmful of effects of slavery. The effects of slavery have had a significant effects on Blacks which have translated in political, economic and social barriers.

To the abolitionist in support of ending slavery, I want you take a moment and think about what you are asking for and how this will profoundly affect our economy. Our reliance on slave labor is the foundation of our economy. Are you now willing to put your own efforts and your children 's effort into picking cotton, and tending to the tobacco fields? I mean think about this, one of our most profitable outputs, rice would cease in being profitable with the lack of output. The status quo must be maintained for good order and discipline, without this there would be widespread unemployment and chaos.

Many people take things for granted. Maybe because they have it all and dont need to worry about anything. However there are some people who have it all but still care for those who don 't. In 1852, Frederick Douglas spoke to the citizens of Rochester, New York, about slavery in his speech, “Hypocrisy of American Slavery”. In his speech, he explains to the white citizens who are celebrating freedom during the fourth of july are wrong to celebrate because half the population is enslaved. Through his use of logical appeal, ethical appeal and antithesis, he illustrates that those who are celebrating freedom must take action for the slavery of half the American population.

Race is one the most sensitive and controversial topics of our time. As kids, we were taught that racism has gotten better as times has passed. However, the author, Michelle Alexander, of The New Jim Crow proposes the argument that racism has not gotten better, but the form of racism that we known in textbooks is not the racism we experience today. Michelle Alexander has countless amounts of plausible arguments, but she has failed to be a credible author, since she doesn’t give enough citations or evidence for her argument to convince people who may not have prior agreement with her agreement.. Alexander’s biggest mistake when it came to being a credible author was starting off the book with a countless number of claims without any evidence in her Introduction.

In this paper I will address the following topics: The Industrial Revolution and Slavery and Abolition in America. I hope that by the end of this paper the reader will understand and know; why slavery was created, who created slavery, what ended slavery, and what started the Industrial Revolution. After, reading this paper I hope that you will able to gain knowledge and understanding about these topics. Slavery Slavery in America began when the first African slaves were brought to the North American colony of Jamestown, Virginia in 1619 to work in the tobacco crops.

Bloody, Cruel, and demeaning are words that represent slavery. Many inhuman acts taken on the slaves included: separating families, treated like property, working for nothing, and abusive beatings. Slaves lived horrible, poorly treated lives. Frederick Douglass escaped slavery and told his story. In his writing, he shared all the gruesome sights he encountered through his life as a slave.

Slavery Slavery has proved itself to be one of the most gruesome and unnerving events in the history of the planet, on par with the Holocaust. Due to this issue, many men, women, and children have fought and are still fighting for their basic human rights and yearn to be equal due to this incident in our history. With this in mind, slavery, a horrific event which started in the early 1600’s, was perpetrated against African natives and both its influence and importance has spread into the current day. Although slavery is banned today in America, it still goes on today.
