The case that I chose is a pretty high-profile case, Casey Marie Anthony. Mrs. Anthony is on trial for first degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child, and four counts of providing false information to law enforcement. I have been learning about Post-Partum psychosis in my Psychology class that I am currently taking. Post-partum psychosis is a period of time that the mother gets depressed to the point she hurts herself or child, and sometimes resulting in death. Sadly, Mrs. Anthony was a part of the small percentage of mothers effected by this. In result, she killed her daughter Kailey.
In the beginning of the trial, I found it very interesting that the judge was the one to read to the jury. The opening of the

"Kailey was wearing a pink shirt, jean shorts, sunglasses, and a backpack. Jojo, George Anthony, kissed his granddaughter goodbye and never saw her again. In fact, no one but Casey Anthony ever saw Kailey Marie Anthony ever again" (Casey Anthony Trial). When the prosecutor said this in the courtroom, Casey began to shake her head and wipe the tears rolling down her face. The judge showed no emotion and it did not show the jury; meanwhile Casey continued to cry while her defense team comforted her. The camera stayed on Casey while she cried, I believe this was on purpose, so we could see what the jury could see. I believe that hearing about these events obviously upset her, but it's unclear to me whether she is upset about the situation is in or if she is upset about what she did. Considering they are going to trail, I think she is upset with her situation. Casey has not looked up but continues to look straight down to her feet with the occasional head …show more content…
She is standing with her hands folded behind her back and chin up. She is telling a story as if she was there and I can see that she is very confident in what she is saying, while also rising question and leaving open ends that is getting the jury to think about what is going on. Casey continues to shake her head when the prosecutor is stating facts that are leading to be against her. The judge is looking around the room and folding his hands. Casey has one of the greatest death glares I have ever seen on her
The Casey Anthony case is the trial of Casey Anthony for the death and murder of Caylee Anthony. The two parties in this case are Casey Anthony against the state of Florida. The trial is a criminal case because it is involving a murder of a child. The trial was originally heard in state court. Although Casey Anthony plead not guilty on the first degree murder charge, aggravated child abuse, and aggravated manslaughter of a child, she was convicted of the misdemeanor which was giving false information to the police and authorities and was given 4 consecutive years of jail time (one year per count) and was fined 1,000$ for each of her four counts (4,000$ in total).
The body of Caylee was found right outside of the family’s property where it would have been easy to dispose of the body. In the autopsy report, traces of chloroform were found on Caylee’s remains while traces of chloroform were also found in the trunk of Casey’s car. Casey’s mother reported that the trunk of her car smelled like a dead body had been in there for a while. In the trial, the defense could not give any explanation as to why any of this is true. Without any evidence to prove these accusations weren’t true is reason enough to believe that she is guilty.
Cindy was the one who made the 911 call on July 19th reporting that Caylee had been missing for a month(Liston, Barbara). She also reported that Casey’s car smelled like a dead body and that Casey had given multiple reasons for where Caylee was before she admitted that it had been weeks since she last saw Caylee. Lying would prove to be a common trend with Casey Anthony. Casey was obviously the primary suspect, and in October she was charged with first
In fact, much of the court case is based on onlookers who barely saw any of the incident. Much of what was said was falsified. “Questions were asked of the incident. Lies were given as answers (page 144).” The verdict was decided based on the untruths, and Madam got to choose a punishment for
SHE happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and HER history with the victim made HER an easy target. We are here today to decide if Casey is guilty of this accusation brought upon HER.You will hear many facts, and the defense will show you the story of someone who fell into the fate of an unlucky dice roll. On a summer day in 2017, Our America, a
When asking her daughter, Casey, where Caylee was she made many different excuses before finally admitting that she had not seen Caylee in weeks. Police suspected that Casey was responsible for the death of Caylee and after an investigation, Casey was charged
Casey Anthony “Smell of Death” In the summer of 2008, Casey Anthony daughter Caylee Anthony was last seen on June 16, 2008. No one knows where she was nor did Casey report that her daughter was missing. Time went by with no sign of Caylee reappearing. Casey’s mother called and reported that her granddaughter was missing and that Casey’s car smelled like a dead body had been in there.
However, Prosecutors stated that Anthony had suffocated Caylee with duct tape because she wanted to be free to hit the nightclubs and spend time with her boyfriend (“Casey Anthony: Why did the jury say not guilty”). Although, in return, the defense that was led by Jose Baez stated that Caylee had drowned by accidently in the family’s swimming pool on June 16, 2008, and stated that the grandfather, George Anthony disposed of Caylee’s body (“Death of Caylee Anthony”). The defense then stated to the jury that Casey lied about the murder because Casey lived in a home of sexual abuse by her father. However, the defense did not show any evidence to the jury as to how Caylee died, nor evidence that Casey was sexually abused as a
The trial of Casey Anthony was one that struck the nation in a very emotional manner. The trial was on TV for months before anyone could come out with any real answers, and even then, they weren’t the answers they were looking for, and half of them were made up. In the end the jury decided to find her not guilty, while everyone else’s opinion was that she was a cold blooded killer. Unfortunately the proper evidence just wasn’t there in the end to convict her for the first degree murder of her 2 year old daughter Caylee. This being said, if I was on the jury I would definitely have found her guilty because of the, in my opinion, extremely odd behavior that came from Casey during the entire process.
A frustrated community, mislead stories, and a phony mother brought to the courtroom in 2008, as a mother was being charged. Casey Anthony, the mother of Caylee, was accused of being responsible for the disappearance and death of her daughter. Caylee had been missing for weeks, before it was reported. The Casey Anthony case was significant to America because it showed our society the careless actions of one mother through the unreliable stories, falsely made reports and evidence that wasn’t thoroughly investigated. This trial was significant to America because it showed our society the careless actions of a mother, and how her choices got her to where she is today.
Not calling 911 and hiding the body was morally and criminally wrong. The lack of remorse bothered me as an utter disregard for her dead daughter and selfishness unparalleled. I believe that the prosecution’s putting the death
The prosecutor started to chip away at her learning that she has a short temper and is easily angered. She got frustrated after being repeatedly told to repeated herself and to speak up. She showed these signs by fidgeting, shifting her weight from side to side and the signs she showed on her face. This could make the jury question her statements if it shows she can’t control herself.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you are here because one person in this courtroom decided to take law into her own hands. The defendant, Mrs. Dominique Stephens, murdered the man that she vowed to love. This sole act by the defendant is violation of all morals and her husband’s right to live. Afterwards, she even felt guilty about this violation of justice and called the cops on herself, and she later signed a written statement stating that she is guilty of the murder of Mr. Donovan Stephens. Then the defendant later recanted this statement and said that she only killed Mr. Stephens in self defense.
In the case of Mary Barnett, I agree with the courts decision to find her guilty of second degree murder and manslaughter. This is largely based on my analysis of the witnesses presented during the trial and the demeanor and actions of the defendant. Having an associates degree in psychology helped me formulate decisions about the role of each character and what part they were to play during the course of the trial. I utilized the teaching from the text book as well as the concepts from my social psychology class which required me to people watch and analyze the surroundings, body language, and actions of others.
In this case the only obstacle the prosecutors had was prove that Caylee Anthony was murdered by her own mother, they had to prove beyond reasonable doubt to the jury that she was behind her daughter’s death. Most of the evidence that was presented was in fact pointed to Casey Anthony as the person who was fully liable for her daughter
