Change and Continuity in the Middle East
Between 600 and 1450 religion in the Middle East changed in that of major splits and new religion emerging; however the status of women seem to remain the same. There are three major religions that had a major impact on the Middle East. Judaism is the monotheistic religion of the Jews, it originated in Canaah Israel and Palestanian territories. Christianity is another major religion that originated in the Middle East. Later on the church was split into different groups. The last major religion is Islam. Islam is the one religion that had the most affect on the region.
Islam originated in Mecca, close to the Red Sea and Mount. Hira. It is said that the archangel Gabriel appeared to Muhamad and asked him to repeat god’s words. In 613 Muhammad preached in Mecca the message that he received. He preached that there was only one god who was all powerful but also merciful, and he freely acknowledges that other prophets (Abraham, Moses, and Jesus) have preached the same truth in the past. Sufism (tasawwuf) is a Muslim movement whose followers seek to find divine truth and love through direct encounters through god. The reason of creating this religion is because people were trying to develop within the religion of Islam. The Emphasis was a reaction against the prevailing deeper meaning began with a pietistic asceticism, which led to the development of Sufism. During the years 1000-1300 CE there were many regions throughout Afro-Eurasia that were experiencing internal conflict, however, some regions were beginning to flourish and become more dominant throughout the Afro-Eurasia continent. One of the regions that was experiencing turmoil was the Islamic empire. Beginning around the year 1000 CE, Islamic Empire was experiencing political fragmentation due to the enormous expansion of the empire. Although, the Islamic Empire was experiencing problems they still became very popular throughout the regions they inhabited. With the help of the Islamic religion many outside people became devout followers.
Why did Islam spread so quickly? “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet.” This is the most important belief in the monotheistic religion of Islam. Muslims, those who follow this religion, have believed this since 622 C.E. The religion was established by Muhammad, in present-day Mecca. The Islam religion, believed by Muslims, has spread across the globe at rapid speeds. Muhammad ibn Abdullah started the religion. The religion began in Mecca. The religion was made known in 610 CE. The two major themes of the religion are “Allah is the one God” and the importance of charity.
In 610, on his daily meditations, he had a religious revelation. He was visited by the Angel Gabriel to tell him, that he was the final prophet to Allah (God). Intentionally very overwhelm by the situation, it was his family and friends that motivated him to recite the revelations, which was later recorded in the Qur’an. The Qur’an is the Muslim holy book complied of Muhammad’s divine revelations. The message of the Qur’an was recited by Muhammad was a radical reforming religion; a religion that sought to restore monotheism after individuals strayed from Allah’s teaching.
Critique and Commentary of Week 5: Models for the Novice During our Week Five class meeting, discussions revolved around the relationship between Islam and Sufism, a relationship that was heavily debated between Sufis, their opponents, and European Orientalists. Both polemicists and Orientalists sought to disconnect Islam from Sufism, either in an effort to delegitimize Sufi cosmologies and practices or to reinforce their own conceptions of what should be considered Islamic. Nonetheless, all of the week’s authors explicitly connected their particular treatise to classical sources of Islamic knowledge: the Qur’an, the Hadith, and the explications of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad.
Every day is spent either in study of scriptures, meditation, or teaching. Another positive aspect of this life style is the practice of complete non-violence. They do not hunt or hurt any living animal being, thus leading to a clear conscience. A negative about this life style includes fasting. The fasts can last for a day or even as long as a month.

Islam is a religion that controls their follower's daily lives. It quickly spread throughout many large and small civilizations all throughout the world. Two civilizations that Islam affected were the Byzantine Empire and China. The Byzantine empire was the section of Rome that remained after the fall of Rome and was a very successful civilization in its time. During the rise of Christianity, the Byzantine empire became a Christian-based civilization and used the church to solve its political and economic problems that sprang up after the fall of Rome.

The societies of West Africa, Europe, and North America exhibited similarities and differences in their religious beliefs, values, and government systems. These contrasts and similarities were further made apparent during European expansion across the Atlantic and the subsequent new cross cultural interactions that were created. One way in which the societies of West Africa, Europe, and North America diverged was in their belief systems. Unlike Europe and North America, West Africa gradually adopted Islam in addition to its traditional religions. Islam diffused through the trans-Saharan trade with North Africa and by the 1200’s was assimilated into the Mali and Songhai Empire.
The Middle East is a place that was the birthplace for many cultures and religions such as Christianity and Islam. As they expanded from this region, both of these religions had good impact on history. However, Christianity and Islam have their similarities in religious beliefs and their differences in expansion between the two religions. Within the time period c. 600 CE to 1250 CE and 1st century to 1000 CE Islam and Christianity began to spread around the world. The two religions spread socially and economically similar but politically different.
Given the vast number of issues that Zoroastrianism, Judaism, and Christianity share, it is not contestable that there must be clear connection between them. The concern, therefore, should not focus on the existence of connection, but how the connections came into existence. Considering the religions from another point of view, they still reflect a dozen of differences. The current paper seeks to compare and contrast the three religions: Zoroastrianism, Judaism, and Christianity. Beginning with the similarities, the three religions trace their origin and early history in the Middle-East.
All Sufis have some common ideas and practices. They all aim to help Muslims to become closer to Allah in their faith, their worship and their daily lives. Sufis believe that the most important thing in life is to be close to Allah in their love for Him and in their devotion to Him. To help them do this, they; try to overcome their own selfishness, avoid attachment to material possessions, try to live a simple life, concentrate on Allah. B)
