Tulsa, Oklahoma, on July 5 at around 11:45am in the north side of the city, former Marine 33 year old Craig Wingard was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Craig had been shot by a man that went inside the house that Craig was in front of, came back out to started to shot. After shooting Craig, the shooter fled the scene in a dark vehicle with paper plates, this according to witness. Craig was shot four times in his chest, hand, and legs.

As the fourth section progresses we are introduced to a variety of characteristics that define a rebel. My personal take was that you know you are truly rebel when you cannot be easily defined by stereotypes of a rebel. In addition, a rebellious person may rebel against multiple ideals but in rebelling against those ideals they support different ideals. Chris McCandless is a paragon of a rebel seen in his rebellion against societal norms but also his rebellion against characteristics of individuals that rebel against societal norms.

Christopher McCandless, the protagonist of the novel and film Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer, is not your average guy. Driven by his minimalist ideals and hate for society, he challenged the status quo and embarked on a journey that eventually lead to his unforeseen demise. A tragic hero, defined by esteemed writer, Arthur Miller, is a literary character who makes an error of judgment or has a fatal flaw that, combined with fate and external forces, brings on tragedy. Christopher McCandless fulfills the role of Miller’s tragic hero due to the fact that his tragic flaw of minimalism and aversion towards society had lead him to his death.

In the beginning of chapter 8, Krakauer blatantly states all these strangers’ opinions about McCandless’s death to the reader. These honest and blunt opinions that were stated against McCandless causes one to realize that McCandless’s peril was one hundred percent absurd

Chris McCandless was just a normal college graduate just like any other person but then he decided to go into the wild and go travel to all different areas before he went to Alaska. Chris decided to go to Alaska because in his head that’s where he thought there would be no one from society telling him what to do. He thought he wouldn’t have to follow the rules of society or people telling him what to do. He reached Alaska, but the reality of Alaska was different that the romanticized expectation that he had in his mind. He didn’t bring enough food for himself and all he relied on was eating plants and berries from the wild. Also, all he relied on was a book about plants and berries to tell him what plants to pick out. I am in agreement with Krakauer on the fact that Chris McCandless was not a sociopath

Chris McCandless abandoned the modern world and chose the wild because he believed that he could improve himself through living in the wild, and found the true happiness of the life. McCandless abandoned his wealthy family because of his complicated relationship with his father, and he was ashamed with his father’s adultery. Therefore, McCandless believed that human relationship was not the only thing that forms happiness, instead a man’s connection with the nature brings joy as well. He also believed the habitual lifestyle was not what people were meant to do, and people shouldn't have more possessions than what they need. For this reason, McCandless traveled with little effects. In addition, McCandless thought he could found the solution to his frustration with the adultery of his father, and found the true happiness for his life through escaping into the wild.

Our society today relies heavily on mass media for communication. Through these mediums and others, like television and printable sources, information is spread worldwide. His incompetence did not allow him to last even a mere six months in the destination in which he had desired to live in.
