The agreement is yes George should have killed Lennie in Of Mice and Men, the reasons are that Curley would have killed him anyway and that they didn’t have enough money for a trail. George should not have killed Lennie because Curley would have killed him anyway. You know this because of this quote “ I’m gonna get him. I’m going for my shotgun. I’ll kill that big son-of-a-bitch myself.
When George shot Lennie he made a better future for himself not having Lennie screwing up his jobs. With both the times of George messing up it has made it hard on Lennie to for himself and Lennie. Since lennie won’t be with George anymore he can keep a job. After a while George and Candy could maybe even gather enough money to get a little house. Also when George killed Lennie he took away any suspicion that was against him for the death of Curley’s wife.
The side that I am choosing is that George should have killed Lennie because Lennie can’t live by himself, he is mentally challenged, and Curley would have killed him anyway if George didn 't. Lennie is mentally challenged and he likes to talk to dead animals and other different things. He gets in trouble a lot and can 't really do anything by himself because he will always be getting in trouble if he is by himself. “Jus wanted to feel that girl’s dress-jus wanted to pet it like it was mouse(Steinbeck 11). The quote proves my reason because Lennie got both George and Lennie in trouble because he wanted to feel a girls dress. George should have killed Lennie because Lennie can 't live by himself and I believe if George didn 't kill Lennie
Not to mention, what happened back in Weed. Lennie always finds a way to get into trouble and George was tired of running from town to town because of Lennie. George felt like Lennie was his responsibility and he had to protect him. That is a lot of responsibility to put on someone. Lennie was going to die one way or another.
It does not directly state that George is doing this in order to end Lennies suffering like with Candy’s dog, it is implied that George shoots Lennie to end his suffering and to make his death
In the book of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck we are arguing whether or not that George killing Lennie was a good idea. I think that George made the right choice when choosing to kill Lennie because Curley would have hurt Lennie worse, Lennie was happy when he died and he would not have been if Curley killed him, and Lennie would have done more bad things if he wasn’t stopped. Curley would have hurt Lennie worse because he was still mad about his hand so Lennie would have been sad and he would have suffered. Curley said “I’ll kill him, I’ll shoot him in the guts. ”(Steinbeck 48)
Another reason Lennie should not have been killed for what he did was because Lennie doesn't know his own strength. George should not have killed Lennie because he should of taught him that he is stronger, when the first accident happened in Weed. George should have taught Lennie how to control himself when he was little.
Lennie with his simple mind, always gets into trouble. This time, Lennie gets himself in a bind once again, that George can’t save him from. George decision to kill Lennie in the story, was due to his responsibility, sympathy, and love for Lennie. George’s decision to kill Lennie was out of sympathy for him.
Some people might think in the opposite side that George should not killed Lennie because Lennie did not mean to anything. He has done it without knowing how strong of himself. Lennie made many troubles this might be because of his disability, but this is the reason that he deserves to live. He has done many thing that make George get into trouble and It is better if Lennie has to die because of George shoot him not the other. "All the time he coulda had such a good time if it was not for you” (Steinbeck).
In the novella, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, George’s decision to kill Lennie at the end of the novel was justified. George and Lennie were best friends, and have been since they were little. They got ran out of Weed(the old farm they used to work at) for harassing a girl and not letting her go. He was just scared from her screaming and kicking. He didn’t mean to harm, or scare her.
The main reason George killed Lennie is because Lennie would have killed somebody again. And the evidence is clearly there, the pet mice that he killed, the poor puppy that he accidently hit to hard, and especially Curley’s wife. He almost killed the girl in weed if he had gone any further. The sad thing is is that he doesn't know how strong he really is, nor does he know what he’s done wrong in the first place.
Although, Lennie’s actions probably weren’t his fault, with him not being able to learn from his actions and remember that his own strength is too much for him that he became a threat. George, pained to do it, knew what was best for Lennie and other people/animals, and had to end his life. Overall, even though George had to make some pretty drastic decisions and someone’s life got taken away, it was all for the best and nothing bad will no longer happen and who knows, maybe George will get to live his
In the end of Of Mice and Men, George shoots Lennie to save Lennie from torture from Curley. “George raised the gun and his hand shook, and he dropped his hand to the ground again. ”(Steinbeck, 52) This proves George didn’t want to shoot Lennie, but George had to. It was the only way for Lennie to be safe from future hurting and suffering.
"Of mice and men" a novel by John Steinbeck which will be discussed in this paragraph evaluating two specific points, one of them is that George did the right thing by killing Lennie for many circumstances to be discussed later; and the second is about George was not supposed to kill Lennie under any reason because the life of every human being must be respected by every person in the world. George, seeing that Lennie did not have the ability to live on his own, always got into very serious problems and seeing that neither of them could get ahead because of those motives as you can see in the next quote: "I done a real bad thing," he said. "I shouldn 't of did that. George 'll be mad.
George’s decision to kill Lennie was ultimately for his benefit. “The hand shook violently, but his (George) face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger” (Steinbeck 106).
