One reason that the movie is better than the book is because of the script. One reason that the movie is better than the book is because of the script. In the book, Fiona and Asher are given the jobs of caretaker of the old and assistant director of recreation, however, in the movie they are given the jobs of Nurturer and Drone Pilot, this proves to be important in the movie because they are both important to helping Jonas take Gabe and run away to restore the community. Fiona being a Nurturer was important because she helped Jonas get Gabe out of the hospital with Jonas, and Asher being a Drone Pilot was important because he was given a job to find Jonas and kill him but he found Jonas and pretended as he killed him so the Chief Elder thought he was dead and would stop looking for him. This makes the movie better because the script of the movie made the jobs of two of the main characters' best friends actually matter instead of the book where their jobs were completely useless and they themselves as characters do not even matter. This impacted me because it made me think about how in life some people are super famous and important and recognized but some people are just as important but are not recognized for what they

Some of the major differences, such as the changes in Jonas, Fiona, and Asher’s characters in the movie as well as Jonas’s escape, really separate the movie from the book. However, that is not to say that there are not plenty of similarities. The descriptions and portrayals of Jonas’s feelings about the Community, The Giver, and the structure of the Community are very similar between the two stories. While the similarities greatly outnumber the differences, some of the differences are very major and can change the story a

The Giver is a novel by Lois Lowry which is about perfection in an entire community. Jonas, who is the main character of the novel, thinks that perfection of language, actions, and other things is normal until he is picked by the Elders to be a Receiver of Memory. He starts to see that the community sacrifices freedom for sameness and perfection, which is a theme developed over The Giver. Jonas at first was a normal boy living in a life where perfection is key. He had to use precision of language, did not get to pick his own meals every day, did not get to disobey or accuse anyone of anything, only allowed to use bicycles to get your way around, and if he did any of these things he would be “released” from the community.
