Eczema also known as Atopic Dermititis, is a term used for different types of skin swelling. Eczema is an allergic condition that causes red, itchy, swollen skin. Eczema is a chronic disease that can show up on the face, scalp, the creases of the elbows and knees, neck, wrists, or ankles. Eczema is most common in children and babies, as it can occur as early as 2 to 3 months old. It shows up suddenly as a rash that makes the skin feel dry, scaly, and itchy, though itching may come and go. It can also bubble up and ooze fluid. According to New York Times, Understanding Eczema to treat it, about 15 to 30 percent of children and 2 percent to 10 percent of adults have eczema, which nearly always begins in the first five years of life. Eczema may be inherited, from a family member who has eczema or who has asthma or hay fever. Doctors think eczema causes are coorrelated to allergic disease, such as hay fever or asthma. Studies show that 80% of children with eczema will develop hay fever and/or asthma. This is what doctors call the atopic triad. Some other factors that may cause Eczema are irritants (soaps and disinfectants), ceratin allergens (pets, pollens, molds,dandruff, and dust mites), foods, stress, or temperature
