Humans are interesting creatures with a high amount of unlimited potential. One potential we have is living a life over a century long. Living for more than a century is not rare in today's day and age. If the human lifespan did increase to over a century-long, so many different changes would substantially take effect on our economy and society. Firstly, society would be less wary about their well being if they knew that they have the potential of living to one-hundred forty years. I would think our society would be more obese than we are today. In a world where life is extended, people would brush off their priorities since they have all their life to correct it. If they decide to eat so much, they have all their lives to change and fix that. This would mean that people have many chances at life or just a lot of time to change. It would mean that people would not take their life as serious as they should. In a world where people live over a century, being lazy and unhealthy would be less frowned upon much more than today. The social norm would change and eat wrong foods, avoiding physical activities such as exercise will be more likely. This would make people take their everyday life for granted. I for one would be taking my life for granted if the human race did extend its lifespan. My life would not be …show more content…
It would take effect because of how long we’re living. As of now, we have 7 billion people in the world today. It’s growing as little by little and we’re near if not overpopulated currently. If we’re overpopulated now, what happens if we live longer? If we live twice the average lifespan we have now, the death toll would be less than the birth rate. Babies would be growing old as two centuries with our medicine advancing even further knowing that medical professionals would have longer lives. A lot of productivity but a very serious consequence with too many people living on earth at
For example, in the 1900s, life expectancy for an average person was just shy of fifty years, and now are over eighty years in 2012. Due to the new higher standards of clinical education and technologies, American doctor's potentials are limitless. Also,
Many people would die and new people
Ageing is something that can be split up into many groups like aa variety of things in society. Older people can be categorized into the young-old, the middle-old and, the old-old. That last one seems ridiculous to me. People in each of these groups are generally happier in this time period rather that the previous one because the United states has given the resources for us to be more prepared for aging. Also nowadays people can start planning for their retirements before they even think about getting old.
I think that this is the reason that people on live to be around 45 because of the mere similarities between the future dark age in the book and the civilizations of 200 years ago. The science was so far back that people didn’t know the difference between a cold and pneumonia. This would cause the medicine and treatments for different ailments to be subpar and just incredibly unreliable. Another piece to this puzzle is that during the actual dark ages people that lived to be 45 were considered old because of the lack of medical Intel. Even in the book’s synopsis on the back, the time they are living in is called “The dark ages of the future”.
Callahan wants us to understand a new perspective of old age; we must know the meaning of the human life cycle and have limits when spending money in addition to programs to prolong life with no value (Callahan, p.592). Extended life shouldn’t be the worry, the worry should be the quality of the elderly person’s life and how one can make it better now and as painless as possible. The goal that should be in mind is to give meaning to elderly life by making it a “decent and honorable time” (Callahan,
Americans are living too long. They are trying to prolong life and delay death. One such person, Ezekiel Emanuel wrote "Why I Hope to Die at 75," and he argues that living too long is a loss (1). He is stating that he does not like this trend. Emanuel does not hope to extend his life as long as possible.
Within the past thirty years, scientists have made multiple medical breakthroughs, such as the identification of HIV/AIDs, a successful attempt at cloning, and the first vaccination for Lyme disease. Compared to the lack of medical knowledge in the 19th century, the average American lifespan was around 30 years old. Currently, Americans live, on average 70 years of age. However, an unsettling percentage of these survivors begin to decline before the age of 70 from illnesses that cause great discomfort or pain. Regardless of the extended lifespan, what is the difference between being alive and living?
Healthy People 2020 asses the health status of the United States population. According to Health People.gov “measures of general health status provide information on the health of a population. Measuring health status can be done by monitoring life expectancy, years of potential life lost, and disparities in health care access. Measuring heath status is used in health care because it makes it easier to understand health outcomes. Life expectancy has increased by thirty years during the twentieth century.
Based on the articles "Welcome to the Future" by Matthew Hudson and "What may happen in the next hundred years" by John Elfreth Watkins Jr., the advancements in technology would help protect the safety and health of the people. For example, in the future, with the advanced medical technology people would be healthier than ever. “... increase in staturdue will result from better health, due to vast reforms in medicine, sanitation, food and athletics. He will live 50 years instead of 35” (Watkins Jr. 24). People 's physical health would be greatly improved because of the future medicines.
Aging is something that everyone takes granted for. We don’t notice it happening but it is happening day by day. The video really gives an insight to what the elderly believe the meaning of aging is and its interesting to the differences in their answers. The way they respond also tells us how they lived their lives and their personality in a way. Aging in American to me means that we are learning something new about ourselves and the world, by living one moment at a time.
Our security would skyrocket and our attacks from other countries decrease immensely. We would be able to figure out how to start helping the mentally ill people, that are unable to help themselves. By helping them, we help ourselves decrease the likelihood of an inside terrorist attack. We as a country should be working together not against each other. We are killing our country because of our unwillingness to cooperate.
My life would be incomplete. I'd be missing a great part of
This paper describes and analyzes a life review interview with an older adult. The purpose of this paper is to discuss, record and reflect on an older adult’s life in order to evaluate them on the last stage of Erik Erickson’s theory of psychosocial development; integrity versus despair. This paper will also focus on the elements of a life review as well as the reflections of the interview on the part of the author. JC is a seventy-seven year old white male who lives by himself in New York City. He was born in London, England, and was an only child.
Reformers achieved the desired objectives, although some assumptions were proven to be wrong. At the end of the century, the average life expectancy at birth was 40 and rose to 50 at the end. This can be interpreted as a successful progress in the living standards. On the contrary, overcrowding and the high infant and child mortality remained a problem until the late
Introduction I. We as a human being, we age and it is said that there will be more elderly people in the future. A. According to the graph of 2012 Population Estimates and National Projections from the Current Population Report by Jennifer M. Ortman, the population aged 65 and above is projected to be 83.7 million in 2050, almost double its estimated population of
