Looking Back on The importance of Science in Daily Life Throughout theses 8 weeks we have covered a lot of useful information. The Scientific discoveries that are discussed in this class are things that affect us in our everyday life, like what’s in our drinking water, how much food have we ate with genetically modified organisms (GMO), also the future of stem cells to treat illnesses. I never really put too much thought into scientific discoveries or really cared to learn about them. Now that I have seen how beneficial scientific discoveries can and will be in the future, I have more of an interest. What I believe to be the most important when looking at scientific information is the creditably of the sources. Like if an article is being used to back up a statement, is that article peer reviewed. Also I think looking into the scientist back ground, how many studies have they done how good of an understanding they may have of the subject being studied. We have to look at the history of the publisher of the newspapers, magazines and websites to get a good understanding of what the publisher like to share and how true the things published in the pasted turn out to be. Also we have to look at the area where these publication will be released, the population and how educated the people are in these areas. The publisher could target these areas knowing it may be a low educated area and just publishing what they feel these people need to know. With some websites it’s hard to tell what could be good information, due to anyone can put stuff on the internet. So what I like to do is find background information on the publisher. I look for previous studies, what degree they have and where they obtained it from, and how long have they been doing scientific
