Compared to the First-Week Essay, how have I changed as a writer? Writing has always been a struggle for me. I could not figure out what to write about, how to write it, or how to organize my thoughts. In the First-Week Essay, my thoughts are unorganized and, for lack of a better term, sloppy. I noticed these aspects while revising Essay One.
A semester have passed in a blink of our eyes and we are heading toward the end. Therefore, it is time to reflect upon my writing skills. Earlier in the semester, I aimed for an A in this class and I also wish to become a more efficient writer. In order to do so, I planned to use a lot of the available resources such as the writing lab, Learning Curve, and
I read A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest L. Gained during my eleventh grade year. Jefferson was a young black man, who was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. I first found the book a little boring. Once I was assigned to read chapter after chapter for homework I found it a little more interesting but then again the book itself lost my attention I really didn't care for Grant and Vivian’s relationship all I wanted to know was, what was going on with Jefferson and what was going to happen to him; was he going to die?
For this assignment, I will be choosing to reflect on Palmer’s book The Courage to Teach. He impressed me as from the beginning since he tells us that the emphasis of throughout the entire book is built on the fact that the identity and integrity of the teacher are the basis of good teaching rather than having good teaching technique since the identity and integrity of the teacher are able to connect with his/her students and hence, connect them to the subject being taught. She should make himself/herself available and vulnerable to “the service of learning”. Critical Reflection The first part of this book encourages me to find myself; it encourages me to have a strong sense of self.
I think the best way to describe my writing this quarter is that it was satisfactory. I did good enough to get a good grade, but could have done better. Throughout this quarter I have learned what to do to titles of movies, books, television shows and others in an essay. I also learned that I need to put the punctuation inside the quotation marks if it is at the end of a sentence. My strengths are research related papers and essays about myself.
It has become easier for me to seek out problems and how to solve them, specifically when I’m doing assignments such as the timed writings in class. I’ve become more comfortable with each writing methods and I’ve become better at structuring my writings to have a better chance at
Before this course, I never realized how impactful social structures and institutions of power has vastly influenced my life. First, I could relate to the Rape, Racism and the Law reading since it is clear that because I’m African-American and a young woman that makes me a victim of oppression by the judicial system. I never realized how being black and a woman causes you to become a target of the legal system. I have never been raped before, but unfortunately I have experienced the damage associated with the myths about Black women. For in high school, I overheard a conversation between two young white guys saying that black girls are sluts compared to other girls.
Critical Reflection 1 Welbourne and Sariol (2017) mentioned different types of incivility within workplace, and they are judgments, ignoring coworkers, inconsistent working hours, taking longer break, interpersonal conflicts, heavy workload, and stressful work experience (pp. 194-195). Currently, I am working as a lead teacher in a toddler classroom, however I am having a hard time to work with a co-teacher. Some of the primary examples of incivility that impact my ability to fulfill the duties of my role in the workplace are I have different teaching style with my co-teacher. For example, I let the children to take lead in their own learning.
This is my last semester in college and I only need 4 more required classes to graduate. 3 of them are required classes while the 4th one is an elective class. I have to carefully choose what class I would like to take for my elective. I could either take computer science, photography, or music appreciation. I have to decide what class to take and which will benefit me in the long run and not in the short run.
Throughout my few weeks of taking this english course I have had time to reflect on my writing skills and I believe that I definitely have room for improvement. While my writing is not terrible it isn’t where I would like for it to be, and as of now I would prefer to be at the level of a college student. It is going to take a lot of hard work to get to where I want to be at, but with everything that I have learned throughout this course I think it may not be as tough as I thought. As a writer I believe that trying to go above and beyond what is asked, creating really strong proposal are my strength, but trying to go above and beyond, and not being able to execute it properly is my biggest mistake. Whenever I write I often think ahead of what I want to write and the apply it to my paper, but sometimes in the writing process I just blank out, and can’t think of the right words to say and which ones not to say and ultimately it leads to an internal conflict on whether or not I should leave it
The project taught me and my team members to be good team members, cooperative and helpful. I felt a change as my researching skills increased considerably. I can better understand the topic and use a variety of sources for search purposes which will help me a lot in future research process. I can create a conclusive argument that can set a tone of the entire project. Using latest techniques of researching and arguing, my paper will seem clearer and my arguments more apparent I have also updated my accounting knowledge by working on new accounting principles.
My clinical professor suggests that I need practice on my skills and wants me to spend additional hours in the skills lab, I disagree with this and will handle this issue by using an active approach, and being proactive. By using an active approach I will first ask my professor specifically what I need to practice on. If my professor gives me a general answer, I will proceed to do the following: I will do all that I can to solve the challenges on my own, and then carefully prepare to ask for help. This preparation means that I will be ready to receive help and be respectful of my professor’s time.

“We do not learn from experience…we learn from reflecting on experience” (John Dewey). Reflecting can help educators look clearly at the successes and struggles of a lesson and come up with ideas for improving our teaching. Reflecting is a valuable tool that helps educators be aware of how they are teaching, which in the end will make them a successful educator. One way to reflect is by videotaping yourself.
I struggle at time management, procrastination, reading, and asking others for help. I feel like I do well with proofreading and making sure that I use the correct grammar, along with note taking. I have learned more this semester about writing than my two previous compositions classes. Everything seems to be broken down more, and this has helped me retain the information. My current class seems to be more fun, laid back, and the writing assignments are explained in detail, and I think this has eased some of my fears when it comes to writing.
