A leader is defined as one who mobilizes other toward a goal shared by leader and followers. That is what General George Washington did during the Revolutionary War that began on April 19, 1775 to September 3, 1783. General George Washington had been selected to be a Commander in Chief of the Continental Army. Throughout the era of the War, General Washington has proved himself to be a formidable leader that made him recognizable in a much later life such as his presidential selection. If it weren’t for General George Washington reshaping the life during the Revolutionary between the British and the Americans, America would have not be what it is.
George Washington once said, “The harder the conflict, the greater the triumph." George Washington was an exceptional leader and role model for many United States presidents to follow. He led the Continental Army to victory during the Revolutionary War. George Washington also cared about the well-being of his men and the formation of his country. As they built and thought of knew theories and ideas the country expanded to what is now called the United States of America. George Washington inspired the people of the United States to become more than colonists, but to become patriots that would fight for their rights and the rights of others.
George Washington is one of the most courageous leaders to ever live, some of his qualities include intelligence, good morals, strength, and leadership. George Washington was very intelligent without as much education as many other children of upper-class families got at his time. He studied math and surveying at school but his schooling ended at fifteen. At age 17 George Washington became the Culpeper county surveyor. He built up his wealth and bought land putting him on the road to becoming very rich.
George Washington was a great leader. He had shown his leadership skills in many ways throughout his life, but mainly when he stepped into the role of president. In my opinion, George Washington was the best president the United States of America has ever had because he was the first president. He stepped into a completely new role in a new government system, set precedents for the role, and led our country diplomatically. While Washington was not perfect, as no human being is, he was a great president and proved so in his eight years in office.
George Washington completely shows the heroic traits of bravery, cleverness, and determination by leading his men similar to Odysseus in Homer’s The Odyssey. First, Washington has the trait of bravery when he led his troops and he stood in the front towards the oncoming enemies. This trait is similar to Odysseus because he took risks to achieve his goal. For example, Odysseus also has the trait of bravery when he reasoned with the Cyclops and when he stood armed on his ship during the encounter with Scylla.
Although unrelatable and underappreciated in the eyes of modern history, George Washington shows his greatness through his character. Contemporary culture often neglects to recognise Washington’s greatness. Sadly, he has become a figure so far removed from the ideals and lives of modern Americans, that his name often provokes boredom. Nonetheless, his character proved to be perfect for what America needed during his life. His greatness was largely due to chance.
George Washington is considered the third best president of all time. During his eight year reign as president he established what we know today as precedents. He was the first president to serve to terms and no other president has with the exception of Franklin Delano Roosevelt who served for four terms years during the Great Depression and World War II. Under his administration the first cabinets or bureaucracies, the Secretary of State and Treasury, were created, the addition of the Bill of rights to the Constitution, the passing of the Neutrality Act, Hamilton’s Economic Plan, and Jay’s and Pickney’s Treaty. Washington also coined the oh so popular phrase “Mr. President.”

These powerful and courageous people led to many changes within the nation that better the country. Great men exist regardless of the time period or region they live in, but history tends to only recognize them and highlight their contributions to society during a time of crisis. However, great men begin as regular men, but they must work their way through a social status rank in order to be deemed as credible. One of the most widely known leaders of the United States is the first president, George Washington who served from 1789 to 1797.
