Have you ever wondered what it means to be modern? Being modern means acting in a different way than others after realizing the consequences after it. Everyone should have an opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and show their true colors. Janie crawford was modern when she stepped out of her comfort zone and decided to stand up for herself and free herself from being someone who she wasn’t. Harrison Bergeron had an opportunity to show how smart he really was compared to the people around him who could’nt. And when good people do bad things, that’s stepping out of what they do best to what they should not be doing and learning from it.
Keller was born with the ability to see and hear but proceeded to lose both senses after contracting an unknown illness early on in childhood. Unable to see or hear the world, Keller became spirited and slightly out of control. With the assistance of a governess, Keller was able to learn to sign and communicate with others. This process took time and over the course of several years, she overcame her disability. Keller learned to recognize vibration patterns to determine who was walking towards her and determine gender based on strength and body shape. She became the first blind and deaf person to obtain their bachelor’s degree and was very politically active. She gave motivational speeches and is the most well known deaf and blind person to this day. Even though Keller was not able to see or hear almost all of her life, she broke barriers and inspired thousands. Keller is a prime example of how dealing with challenges does not weaken one’s self, but allow them to
The RTC pt, Brandon Williams, was on TLOA, and was set to return today. However, on 11/26/15 he was admitted to Helen Keller hospital for medical stabilization. As of today, pt remains admitted to Helen Keller Hospital. Unfortunately, pt was not discharged from MS4 on 11/26. His account has now been corrected to reflect the correct d/c date.
Helen Keller, for instance, overcame the adversity of being blind, deaf, and mute to become one of the twentieth century’s leading humanitarians, as well as co-founder of the ACLU. Two years after she was born, she lost her ability to see and converse with others. Her teacher helped her make tremendous progress with her ability to communicate and in 1904, Keller graduated college. Instead of allowing these disabilities to hold her back from achieving greatness in her life, she was able to push through the challenges and come out on top. Another excellent example is my cousin Kaylee. She was diagnosed with a tumor in her left shoulder when she was fourteen years old. Whether she is in the hospital all day or hanging out with her friends in school, she never lets her illness stop her from striving to do her best. She was told a year ago that she would not be able to play volleyball again, considering it frequently involves moving her shoulder. Instead of giving up on her desire to play sports, she continued to do exactly what her doctors recommended in order to have the slightest chance of playing again. A year has passed and she is playing volleyball again with her best friends. Kaylee’s strength and determination became evident when times were tough. When we as human beings feel passionate about achieving a goal, we may learn something new of ourselves, often times a new trait that we did not
Moreover, Motopaws Website also saw the difficulty occurring throughout the world about stray dogs and roadkill that have become a problem so they created retro reflective collars for dogs to proscribe or reduce the number of stray dogs and roadkill. “At Motopaws, our mission is to make the streets safer for dogs as well as us, people and our vision is to eventually eradicate the issue of dog road kills and other such accidents caused by their low visibility. The Motopaws collar we make is coated with reflective fabric in order to make the wearer dog visible to us from a distance not only in the dark of the night, but also in broad daylight. The collar, harmless in nature is today worn by thousands of our street dogs situated in more than 20 cities around the country.”(Motopaws Website). This is a keen solution since there is no impairment being done to anyone or anything. Not only that, but the number of dog mortalities will go down drastically!
The Bethel School District had suspended the respondent, Matthew N. Fraser for the span of three school days as well as the school decided to revoke his name from a roster of potential speaking at special ceremonies such as graduation. The respondent’s parent reciprocated action by bringing their child’s infraction of his first Amendment right. This includes his freedom of speech.
Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. He went into the wild of Alaska for months, in fact, McCandless even thought he could make it out alive at the end of his journey. As a matter of fact, he was known as being a risk taker and enjoyed being out and about in the nature side of the world. Many would believe that Chris McCandless went into the wild to purposely kill himself; however, I myself believe that McCandless did not do it purposely.
People have different views on what success really means. Some say success is based on money or fame. If you have a lot of money or fame you're "definitely" successful. Others say success is based on your fulfillment and overall happiness in your life. Alfred Brooks, the protagonist in the novel The Contender by Robert Lypsite, has many friends, family, and supporters. Alfred also has almost no financial gain through boxing, but he's been inspired to work hard. Lastly, Alfred is very happy with his life even after his boxing career fails. On the other hand, Midge Kelly, the main character in the film "Champion," is the polar opposite of Alfred. Midge loses his friends, family, and supporters. Also, Midge is rich, but he dies alone and unhappy. At the end of the novel, Alfred Brooks is more successful than Midge Kelly is at the end of the movie.
A seemingly uncorrelated death of a child becomes an attack on two businesses that brought forth unwanted attention. It reveals how corporations can truly neglect their surroundings and the safety of citizens without remorse. In the quaint town of Woburn, Massachusetts, the death of Anne Anderson’s son due to leukemia quickly transformed from a personal tragedy to an extensive lawsuit. Anne Anderson approached Jan Schlichtmann, a personal injury lawyer, to tackle the case. From the beginning, Anne makes it clear that she does not want money, she simply wants an apology. At first, Jan rejects the case because he does not see money being made from the case. However, after a fateful encounter with a police due to speeding, Jan had the chance to scan the environment which promptly changed his mind
It took just forty five days for United States citizens to acquiesce their rights to freedom and privacy for the sake of safety following the events of September 11, 2001. Forty five days is how long it took the United States Congress to pass a law that gave up the very concept of liberty upon which this country is founded. The morning sky was a brilliant shade of blue with not a cloud in sight in New York on that fateful day of September. That all changed at 8:45 AM when a Boeing 767 jet plane tore into the north tower of the World Trade Center. Eighteen minutes later, a second Boeing 767 bit into the sixtieth floor of the south tower. Screams and sirens pierced the air; thick, black smoke and flying debris ruined the perfectly clear
Greg Olsen is entering his fifth season with the Carolina Panthers and become the most underrated tight end in the league in my opinion. He has no doubt become old reliable for quarterback Cam Newton to play breaks down or he just needs to find his rhythm. Olsen is coming off his best year as a pro with 84 receptions for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns that productivity resulted in his first Pro bowl selection. 2015 I predict much of the same especially with the loss of Kelvin Benjamin and the sudden inexperience at the wide receiver position. Thank you Chicago Bears for giving us one of the best tight ends in football much
Representing the wild and wonderful state of West Virginia, Nya Scott, is the current reigning Miss WV High School. Nya’s platform, Get Into Volunteering Eagerly or GIVE, allows her to relentlessly serve her community in many ways. While she is currently a sophomore at Waynesboro High School, she has earned enough credits, maintains excellent grades,
An Atlanta Superior Court Judge Mary E. Stanley has granted a change of venue motion in case of 22 month old Cooper Harris’s death. Justin Harris, the 35 year old father of Cooper was been charged with malice murder, felony murder as well as first degree cruelty to children after leaving his toddler son in a hot car for seven hours in June 2014.
People rebel when no justice being served. It is understandable why people act a certain way. Have you ever loved someone more than yourself? A person is your biggest pride and joy to be safe? Can you imagine how it feels to no longer have your pride and joy with in a split second, due to the way they look? The exctuaray pain of a death of a child is a mother 's worst nightmare. They feel it is the only way to raise attention. In the city of Ferguson, Michael Brown was an unarmed black teen and was shot by police; this was the beginning of a wave of uprisings against police brutality nationwide.
In today’s society, we have former National Football League(NFL) quarterback Collin Kapernick who’s no longer in the NFL because of his protest against racial inequality. However, many people believe he is no longer in the NFL because of his talent. Kapernick led the 49ers to Super Bowl 47. Although they didn’t win, he threw for 302 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 62 yards. Therefore, he didn’t get kicked out of the league because he wasn’t good enough, but for sitting down during the national anthem.
