Literature Review: Every murderer has a reason why they do it whether they know it or not. Sexual serial killers do it because they want to feel like they have control over the situation because maybe they were a victim of assault or rape, and they want to gain back the control they lost. Some murder’s kill loved ones because they are guilty of cheating, or they think they don’t love them anymore. Murders are all categorized based on their motive or the professionals put them in one after they review the crime and crime scene. A professional lair suggests someone who tells lies for a living, perhaps someone who lies well.

Many murderers hide in plain sight; they could be friends, neighbors, or even a local bartender. Homicides are discovered each day in the United States, but the question remains, “Was this the act of a serial killer?”
In the 1980’s a victim was linked to a string of murderers in the 1980’s. Lonnie Franklin is mostly known for being a serial killer, the Grim Sleeper. Throughout this documentary deviance is shown, one afternoon a man who worked for Lonnie who thought he was an insurance man received a car from Lonnie and he found splattered blood in the seats. Lonnie told his insurance man to set the car on fire and the man did so because nobody expected Lonnie to do anything that would cause harm and they never told him no. The environment Lonnie lived in influenced him, he lived in a very poor section of town, not many jobs, and bad schools.
On January 29, 1991, a vile crime occurred in the Heikkila home in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Twenty-year-old Matthew Heikkila, the adopted son of Richard and Dawn Heikkila loaded up a “sawed-off 20-gauge shotgun” (Sullivan). He labeled shotgun shells “Mom” and “Dad”, and shot his parents both in the head. Matthew plotted the murder to get the chance to steal his parent’s credit cards, and treat his girlfriend to a birthday dinner. Matthew then left his parent’s dead bodies on the floor of his home and he and his girlfriend enjoyed a night in NYC.
Tears ran down 21-year-old Amanda Wright’s face as she listened to the verdict from the jury, for the murder of her mother, Teresa Steller. She could not believe that they were letting a guilty man walk free, because he was diagnosed with being insane at the time of the crime. Teresa was brutally murdered by her husband William Steller, Amanda’s step-father. William dragged Teresa’s body, by her feet, down seventeen wooden steps causing her head to become severely bruised. He then continued to drag her to the kitchen where he stabbed her forcefully thirty-six times.
On Sunday, November 13, 1842 a double murder occurred at Smith Farm in Old Fields, Long Island. The victims, Alexander Smith and and Rebecca Smith, were a wealthy, well- respected married couple who ran Smith farm. George Weeks, the Smiths farmhand, was reporting for work the monday after the murder and heard the dog barking from the work-shed by the Smiths house. George Weeks then became suspicious since the dog was usually inside with Mr. Smith. George then looked in the house and saw that the east room window was broken and Mr. and Mrs. Smith were lying on the floor covered in blood.
Gary Kinder’s book, Victim: The Other Side of Murder, offers a disturbing record of the murder and attempted murder of five individuals in a murder/robbery planned by an individual who should have never been free to commit such a heinous crime to begin with. Kinder’s book allows the reader to essentially get into the heads of the people who must experience the fallout of this devastating event, and offers a unique perspective on how the indirect victims of crime can be impacted just as direct victims are. The famous rhyme of Lizzie Borden giving her mother 40 whacks and then her father 41. Most people assume she committed the crime, of killing her parents, and that she planned the whole thing though there are some holes in the case. Everybody thinks she committed the crime though no one is sure, one thing is certain there are holes in the case and these holes make me believe that Lizzie did not do the crime. There are so many holes that no one is certain who did the crime.
Option 3: Argument Life can either be taken way too seriously, or not at all. Some people choose to take life seriously by following all the rules that are enforced on us from birth until we get older, and others choose to take their own path and see where it takes them. The second behavior can be seen as treating life like a game. In Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Dr. Thurmer says that “life is a game that one plays according to the rules,” and Mr. Spencer mentions that idea to Holden while they talk. Although Holden does not think life is a game, his behavior and experiences show otherwise throughout the book.
1.Society as a whole believes serial killer are evil because that is how the media portrays them. We subconsciously let the media control our thoughts by believing it what they tell us. The media knows the power they have over us when we listen to the news, watching a movie or even reading the newspaper. In the way they report news on serial killers , it promotes fear and anxiety to their viewers. Movies even have more effect than we realize as well .

Hello Class, July 13 2013 Albert DeSalvo ran out of luck. Evidence finally came up for a crime that could tie DeSalvo to an assault charge of nineteen year old Mary Sullivan. Mr. DeSalvo was also tied to eleven deaths that could not be proven. DeSalvo while on his terror was named the “Boston Strangler. ”(Bulman, 2014)

It can be questioned if Kenneth actually committed the murders, it may have been Angelo committing the killing and Kenneth just aiding him in the process. Adnan Syed, Hae’s 17-year-old ex-boyfriend was convicted of her murder in 2000. The problem with this is that the only evidence the state had to convict Adnan was the stories told by others, specifically someone named Jay who was with Adnan for some of the day Hae went missing and had possession of Adnan’s car and cell phone.
