The Industrial Revolution began in England in the 1700’s within the textile industry. The Industrial Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes by using different machines. Before the Industrial Revolution people made different things by hand or simple tools. For example, people wove textiles by hand, and after the Industrial Revolution machines were used instead. The Industrial Revolution began in England because of many reasons.
Firstly the Industrial Revolution began due to the primary focus of the 19th century being economic growth and expansion. The Industrial Revolution was essentially an era of new manufacturing procedures and new manufactured goods. This period exposed us to a notable “great inventor” who was called Eli Whitney. He gave us the popular invention of the cotton gin which made the process of separating seeds from cotton easier and less time consuming. Whitney also introduced us to interchangeable parts which made the creation of weapons quicker and cheaper.
The Industrial Revolution began in England due to the fact that they had an abundance of resources, they had inventions created to help them work faster, and the workers were productive. England was the perfect place to start the Industrial Revolution because they had the resources needed. England had coal, cotton, lead, tin, wool and water (Doc 1). These resources were abundant and there was plenty to go around.
The Industrial Revolution transformed society into a well oiled machine. It took place between 1760 and around 1820 to 1840. The industrial Revolution meant a transition into many new manufacturing processes. It took place in the United Kingdom (Great Britain). The reason it took place here was because the UK had a greater head start on commercial and technological advances than the rest of the world did at the time.
As the Industrial Revolution came about in the early 1800’s and it had a big impact on not only how people lived, but how long people lived. From the British Medical Journal, The Lancet, the life expectancy of a professional was only to the age of 38, it was 20 years old for a person of the middle class or an average person, and for a laborer in the factories the life expectancy was about 17 years old. (Doc. 8) The reason for terrible numbers is all of the pollution in the air and water throughout the city. The industrial revolution completely changed America as we know it. It brought many changes to our nation- some good and some bad. The Industrial Revolution changed how we produce and consume goods.
