Did you ever want to know why we were never to find a compromise on slavery which lead us to the civil war.Well he reason that the US was not able to find a compromise on slavery for 40 years. Is because the north and south were never able to agree on a compromise in the government and with the people.I will be showing you this through 3 sources that are.Uncle Toms Cabin, The Election of 1860 and John brown. Now some people might think it was because of another reason but you will see that's not true.I will show you that by using The Underground Railroad.
This source Uncle Tom's Cabin shows how they weren't able to compromise with the people because in the texts it states “The book had a major influence on the way the American public viewed

He started around 1813 when he was 15 years old.”At this time North Carolina was a slave state and the Southerner was helping slave escape so this mean that some people in the North and South are helping slaves escape. This didn't put the North and the South more against each other because people from both sides had been helping the slaves escape. This shows how the underground railroad didn't have as big of an effect to cause the Civil War than these other events. This shows that the reason that the US was not able to find a compromise on slavery for 40 years because the north and south were never able to agree on a compromise in the government and with the people.Through these three sources Uncle Tom's Cabin,The Election Of 1860 and John Brown. Also there is the source The Underground Railroad that didn't have as big as a impact as the other three sources. The source Uncle Tom's cabin showed. how the United States Weren't able to compromise with the people because in the texts it states “The book had a major influence on the way the American public viewed slavery”.This is showing they cant come to a compromise because the views that it mainly shifted were the north and it was in a negative way towards slavery.Which made many northerners feel that they had to get rid of slavery. Then it angered the south because they felt that what was said in the book is not what slavery is like. Then the election of 1860
The Compromise of 1850 did not give a solution to slavery, either. Henry Clay said that California should enter the union as a free state, then the rest of the states would have no limits on slavery. Also trading in Washington, D.C. would be banned. The slavery itself would not be banned. People objected against this.
Gracie Evans Ms. Stader APUSH 14 November 2017 In the early years of the Antebellum era, or pre-war period, compromise was essential. Despite tensions between the North and South caused by things like Uncle Tom’s Cabin of 1852 (Robbins), arguments over states rights, and rumours of southern secession, it seemed like compromise was always possible. The main turning point for this was in 1854.
The only way that Americans sought peace and equality throughout the country was through Civil War. Slavery was the most considerable issue when dealing with the disputes of the 1800s. The majority of the South wanted to secede for one reason being Abraham Lincoln thought of as an abolitionist who wants to benefit the North. States threatened to secede from the county because of an unbalance between free and slave states. The majority of people in the South believed that slavery
Even though the railroad existed before the great division between the north and the south and it mainly contributed in providing goods for both sides, the invention of the railroad greatly contributed to the civil war. The first railroad created in the US was in 1827 and their major role was to transport goods from the North to the South and back. As slaves became more abundant in the South and less present in the North a war began on the idea of slavery. The railroad caused this Civil War by bringing goods to only one side and keeping their advantage. It went from having different point of views to all out battles that started with starvation and isolation, but led to death and separation.
The Compromise of 1850 was an attempt by the U.S Congress to settle divisive issues between the North and South, including slavery expansion, apprehension in the North of fugitive slaves, and slavery in the District of Columbia. The Compromise of 1850 failed because Senator John C. Calhoun from the South and Senator William Seward from the North could not agree on what Henry Clay was putting down. Part of the compromise was to make California a slavery free state which benefits the North, and enforcing a stricter fugitive slave law which benefits the South. Both the North and South opposed what the other was benefiting from. What sparked the failure of the Compromise was the Fugitive Slave Law of 1850.
The United States in the years right before the Civil War was in chaos as it tried to find ways to keep the country together. Slavery induced this, with the South supporting it while the North made it illegal in their territories. This caused opposing viewpoints in Congress. Luckily, there was a balance of free and slave states in the country, so each party had an equal say on topics. As a result, admitting new states was difficult.
In America in the 1840s and 1850s the north were growing industrially and relying on factories while the south was still rural and all about agriculture the two were growing apart. There became the debate over slavery and the north saw it has morally wrong while the south saw no problem with it. In the 1860s the south finally seceded from the union when Lincoln became president. In effort to try and help with issues there became many compromises like the compromise of 1850. While some believe the civil war started over “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” there is historical evidence that shows that the real causes for the secession of the southern states and the starting of the civil war to force them back into the union, were overwhelmingly the caning of
The main reason behind the long time of conflict between the Northern and Southern states of the United States, were the constant compromises. These compromises work good enough at doing their job of making both sides happy, but by 1860 compromise no long seemed possible. The whole idea of making compromises was drawn out, and due to multiple events in the country, it eventually came back for the worst. Some of the events which lead to the downfall of compromises were, the Missouri Compromise, the many anti slavery movements, and the election of 1860.
It also caused problems between the two sides because they disagreed with each other. It led to the war because the North wanted to get rid of slavery, while the South wanted to keep it. Since the North wanted to get rid of them, and pushed this upon the South, it angered the people in the South. The Southerners then fought for what they believed in and this was one of the main fighting points of the war.
The Underground Railroad was a network of secret routes, safe houses, and individuals who helped enslaved African Americans escape from the South to the North and Canada. The Underground Railroad played a crucial role in providing a means of escape for enslaved African Americans in the 19th century. The records and narratives of the experiences of those who participated in the Underground Railroad provide valuable insight into the social, political, and economic factors that contributed to the abolition of slavery in America. This research paper will analyze and synthesize ten sources related to the Underground Railroad to explore its impact on the abolition of slavery.
It is imperative to know the conditions of the time prior to the beginnings of the underground railroad and the impact it left on the country in order to understand
Slavery was one of the biggest problems between 1820 and 1860. Sometimes two states had to be added to the Union at the same time, to make things fair. The North and the South fought almost constantly over the issue of slavery, sometimes things were able to be worked out about it, but as the years passed, the problems with slavery and territory started to become too big to ignore or
However, these differences show that the North and South were actually two distinct countries held together by one constitution. The North felt that decisions regarding slavery and its legality were entrenched in the central government while the South felt that such decision belonged to the individual states. In the times preceding the war, both sides could not reach a compromise. Bonner mentions, “Because secession and war were permitted to come, warned Russel, "We are not entitled to lay the flattering unction to our souls that the Civil War was an inevitable conflict (Bonner, 195).” Hence, these differences could only be addressed through war.
Many African American authors and critics very strongly disagreed with how the white plantation owners and the slaves were portrayed in the book. For example Nat Turner’s first slave owner, Samuel Turner, was presented in very high light. This was probably not the case, and that is the reason it enraged so many readers. The book was also banned in some places because of the sexual violence that was portrayed in the novel. Before I get into the book itself it is important to know about the actual person who was Nat Turner and the rebellion that he led in 1831.
The book caused chaos between the North and South. Also causing slavery to be an even bigger deal than it was before and now it's the West slavery
