In the book “To Kill a Mockingbird,” there was a lot of courage. Courage means the ability to do something that frightens one. It takes a brave person to show courage. In the book a lot of the characters showed courage in their own way. More into the book, you’ll see more courage from the characters. Half of the events that happened in the book, showed courage. When people show courage in the book, it amazes me. Just to see all those people take up for each other is awesome. And i wish we had more of that today. The characters i’m going to be talking about were brave, and amazing people. Hopefully i’ll meet people like them one day. Calpurnia helps out atticus out with Jem and Scout, so she’s basically the maid. Calpurnia is an african american. One day Calpurnia took Jem and scout to her church. Calpurnia’s church is different from Jem and Scouts. Her church was full of african americans. One lady approached Calpurnia about bring two little white kids in a colored church. Calpurnia stood up for Jem and Scout and told the lady that, they were all praising the same God, and so everyone was welcome. Calpurnia had a lot of courage to bring Jem and Scout to her church. Atticus showed courage by taking up for a black man named, Tom Robinson. Tom was accused of rape towards a white woman. Atticus did lose, but he kept on fighting to make his point that Tom was innocent. After the case, Bob Ewell, (the father of mayella who accused Tom), cussed out Atticus and spit in his face. After, Atticus calmly reacted by, wiping of his face and walking away. If it was any other person, they probably would’ve knocked Bob Ewell on his butt.
