“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do” (Pele qtd. In Soccerlens). Countless people have done amazing things through perseverance. Sonny was an average boy in a mining town, but he started building rockets and learned a valuable life lesson.
People have been successful repeatedly, but is there a pattern between wildly successful people? Do they have a secret to success that we can’t identify? What these authors believe is the secret to success is through research and observation. Malcolm Gladwell and Marge Piercy believe they have an answer to unlock success through that. In both texts, Malcolm Gladwell and Marge Piercy can agree on dedication, hard work, and purposeful practice are attributes you need to become successful.
Think of success like watching a tree grow the branches split into different paths one can take each split is another opportunity to prosper and grow beautiful leaves like trophies. An uncommon belief is that the process of becoming successful is like a tree branch, if one starts off strong, more paths appear growing from the sturdy branch, and achieving goals lead to leaves growing to show wealth. “It is those who are successful, in other words, who are most likely to be given the kinds of special opportunities that lead to further success,” (Gladwell 30). Author of nonfiction book Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell, agrees with this uncommon belief, in his book he argues that success does not come from intelligence or passion
I don’t know about you, but becoming president of USA is a huge accomplishment, people dream of becoming president because it’s a big deal. Especially after growing up poor and losing his mother at such young age he was a able to overcome all that and become the 16th president. That’s one of the main reasons that he inspires me because he knows how to keep going when the going get tough. He also issued The Emancipation Proclamation, which freed over 3 million slaves from the Confederate States(Coolidge 113). That was a bold move by him because by issuing the Emancipation Proclamation he basically told the south that he wasn’t going to stand for their bs.
Outliers Success has always been defined by how much a person wants to succeed, as well as how hard they are willing to work to achieve that goal. Marva Collins once said, “Success doesn’t go to you… you go to it.” But upon closer inspection, Malcolm Gladwell has come up with new factors that help lead a person to success. In Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, Gladwell argues that it is not only hard work, but also the conditions and circumstances surrounding a person’s life that leads to success. Gladwell’s argument is correct because of many reasons.
People always try everything that is within them to achieve their dreams. This happens because since little people think big without looking at the circumstances that are around. People think that they could become anything if they work for it. They are excited thinking about what they can do to be better every day so they could be able to reach their goals, nevertheless, then there comes a time in life when all dreams start to become impossible and more distant every day. In Outliers: The Story of Success, Malcolm Gladwell reveal several stories that talk about different people that have become successful in different ways.
What causes success? To many people, success is cultivated through dedication and perseverance; the amount of effort put in directly correlates to the quality of the result. However, this statement does not fully represent the implications of success and how it is achieved. In Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell analyzes the basis of success, uncovering the astonishing effect that opportunity and legacy have on the creation of outliers. When applied to my life, these two factors play a significant role in my achievements and future potential.
A great president to me a leader is a person who has great communication skills, who is a natural born leader, and also someone who has empathy or can relate with the general public. All great presidents have certain traits that make them a good leader. One important trait that I feel any good president should have is great communications skills. A president that can reach out to people with different backgrounds and different political views and can get them to listen is a leadership trait I feel
Henry David Thoreau said, at one time, “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.” I would say that while this is correct by way of defining success as the result of action, life isn’t always at the control of the individual, and that a person who single mindedly follows a goal will find themselves exhausted, when a better direction can be taken. Thoreau’s assertion has truth: Nothing happens in a state of inaction. The life of a human being is like the plotline of a story, and unless the character does something, the plot cannot and will not move forward.
But the way you achieve your desired amount of success can all differ. For some it may be handed to them in the way of numerous opportunities. For others it may take an extreme amount of hard work (say 10,000 hours) to finally reach their top potential. In the book Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell the different ways people gain success is discussed. Whether it be through luck, hard work, or community interference, Gladwell explains how they can either
How we think and feel during a speech is often the result of the words a speaker uses and the tone they take. Clinton’s speech had a very specific goal of showing the audience that he was humble and sorrowful, and garner sympathy and forgiveness so that the president could continue holding his status. Clinton used many techniques and his own charisma and personality to drive the speech to be as influential, and be as memorable, as it is. Its masterful use of language and the careful presentation created a lasting impression that Americans today can reference when discerning what is really being said when a politicians
People today with platinum albums, gold medals, etc. are what most people think about when you mention success, but how did that happen exactly? Most people just say it was hard work but did those people think about the true possibilities about how they come to be the people they are now? Malcolm Gladwell, who wrote “Outliers” clarifies how it was possible for these people to be successful and what big factors took place during their lives to make them successful. Many theories have been set in the past about success stories and how they correspond to each other and how they differ by a great margin, and many psychologists and another scientist ,such as Malcolm Gladwell have come to find out how success occurred. Two of those success stories that “differ by a great margin”
Seong Hyun Kim(David) ELA 11 (-- removed HTML --) Most people normally think about intrinsic factors when they consider for the main components of success. However, Malcolm Gladwell, a famous writer, contradicts this tendency through the book, Outliers. Outliers insists that extrinsic factors define success rather than the intrinsic ones. Nonetheless, Gladwell himself goes against the topic of Outliers in his assertion: “if you work hard enough and assert yourself, and use your mind and imagination, you can shape the world to your desires”.
George Washington won only three battles in the revolutionary war. yet he never gave up, and when victory came, it counted. British general Cornwallis, who surrendered at Yorktown ending the war said to Washington, "I salute you not only as a great leader, but as an indomitable gentleman who wouldn 't give up.
As we all know, the way to success is full of obstacles and difficulties, and you need to try your best to handle these problems and persist achieving final goals. There are many examples such as Thomas Edison, one of the greatest scientists in the world, spent several decades inventing the battery. Though he failed so many times, he never gave up but persisted testing for thousands of times, and finally he succeeded in inventing the battery. However, if he gave up when he faced problems, we cannot enjoy the benefits of the battery as so early. What makes him a giant in the invention field is that his
