The real-world business situation that I will be addressing by collecting and analyzing a set of data is that of a Hospital, specifically that of the hospital staff and the patient safety interaction. I have chosen this specific business as it is my hope to utilize this degree to become a director at a local hospital. In Hospital’s there are so many aspects that one needs to look at. These aspects can be broken down into individual pieces of data that can be analyzed and provide a clear outlook of change. A 1- The one question or decision relevant to a Hospital business that I will answer by collecting and analyzing a set of data is: Is there a relationship to the number of hours a Registered Nurse (RN) works and patient safety? RNs are the main caregivers to the patient. They …show more content…
The data I collect to answer the question, “Is there a relationship to the number of hours a Registered Nurse (RN) works and patient safety?” will be data that contain several variables. Some of these variables will include: The RNs sleep/wake patterns, their mood, their amount of caffeine intake, hours worked, specific time of day, any overtime worked, etc. These variables will be submitted on the days that each RN works. In order to summarize a logical answer that has substance, I will need to use a data analysis technique that will be able to account for the numerous variables associated with the data collected. The linear programing also goes on to say that it aides in decision making about how to best use limited resources. RNs are becoming limited resources for hospitals. That is why so many work 12+ hour shifts plus a high volume of overtime. By using this technique it will not only be able to utilize the multiple variables, but also help determine how to allocate these limited resources without putting the RNs or patients at

Medication issue: The CP addressed with Mrs. Navarro about the CP conversation with Dr. Freddie Marton with regards to Tyler’s medication regimen. The CP asked Mrs. Navarro if she is providing Tyler’s with his medication and her response was that she needs to do a refill and then she says, “Oh, I cannot find them since we are packing.” However, Tyler intervenes and stated that he knows where the medication is and based on Mrs. Navarro reaction, she appeared stunned. Tyler left the living room and returned with the bottle at which appears to be full. The CP glazed at Mrs. Navarro reaction and she immediately stated that she will start giving him his medication and will also considered the school nurse providing Tyler with his medication at the school.
Business Issue In an attempt to reunite the company after being geographically separated for seven months, my company commander decided to create a rotation between several of the employees. While the intentions of the switch were pure, the implementation created immense manning requirements on my organization. Due to travel schedules, my organization was going to have multiple days with employee shortages, forcing my employees to work double shifts instead of having a rest day; the same was not true for the other entity of the company. Consequentially, I had to negotiate with my commander in order to resolve the scenario.
3. Selection Testing Job seekers who pass the screening and preliminary interview are called in for selection tests. Different types of tests can be conducted and this depends on the company and job profile. Generally these tests can determine an applicant’s ability aptitude and personality. 1.
1.) What do you believe are the three most pressing issues facing nursing associations today. Be descriptive in your analysis. • Marketing Issues- If nurses do not know about the nursing associations available to them how are they supposed to join?
Throughout this paper, I will explore both the pros and cons of mandated nurse-to-patient ratios in order to resolve the question, does nurse to
The Nurse Practice Act is a specific set of rules and regulations. The purpose is to oversee the safe practice of nursing and safety of the public. NPA lists the standards and scope of nursing practice, along with requirements for licensure, the types of titles and licenses and educational standards. The Nurse Practice Act is a nurse’s guide to safe practice (Russell, K. 2012).
Due to hospital care reaching an all-time high in America, we need nurses now more than ever before. Currently in America, we have an issue with nurses having too many paperwork to fill out. In the article “We Need More Nurses” by Alexandra Robbins argues we need more nurses in the hospital. Nursing shortage has been a common issue throughout the world. Because of this issue others are being affected in many different ways.
The healthcare industry generates a great amount of data every day, as a form of record keeping, patient care, compliance, and regulatory requirements. Just a decade ago, all this data was stored in the form of hard copy form, now it is rapidly transforming to digital data which is called EMR (Electronic Medical Record). The digitalization of the healthcare has not just reduced cost of care, but also improved quality of care due to the abundance data that organizations receive from the EMR to identify the flaws in their system. I work in the healthcare industry where improving quality of care is our primary goal. We use software called eCW , which is an integrated system.
According to Kearny (2014) “performance is work activity plus result” (p. 1). In this particular situation, that means that what activity will help to produce the desired outcome. For example, the activity for process transactions from customer, the result is to ensure that customer is satisfied with the service and continues to return. To ensure that the result of a happy customer is achieved on a regular basis, there will various activities that must be achieved to ensure this outcome.
Mandatory overtime is an issue faced by many nurses across the nation. It is seen as a solution to the nursing shortage crisis; however, it is not a sustainable solution as it has led to an increase in medical errors, increased patient mortality, decreased job satisfaction, nurse fatigue, and deficits in nurse’s work performance. Several states have enacted or are considering laws to prohibit this problem. According to Rubenfire, “This is something that's been going on in hospitals for a very long time,” Ruben noted. “But it is not as focused on as much in the past.”
1. What problems did you encounter when handling the complaint? Whenever I received complaints, the problem is that the subordinates usually deny or come up with some explanations making it difficult to discuss it in a genuine manner. Sometimes even if we reprimand them for their mistakes it creates a very tense environment in the hospital and it also affects the quality of work.
This is important evidence because it gives us conditions and results of what can happen if patients get lower quality care. Patients’ are not having enough time getting checked up by a nurse, and nurses would miss some diagnostics. Patients are getting sick because of the poor care they are receiving from nurses. The care patients can get is affected by a nurse shortage, “Nursing workload definitely affects the time that a nurse can allot to various tasks. Under a heavy workload, nurses may not have sufficient time to perform tasks that can have a direct effect on patient safety.
By reducing the number of days a patient remains in the hospital it improves the quality of treatment and increases hospital profit by improving efficiency of bed management (Baek et. al, 2018). An example of a decision made within the healthcare system based upon occupancy rate is how much staffing should be scheduled, how many resources are required to have in hand to care for the patients, and how many beds will be utilized in the future (Logik,
As previously mentioned, there are three resources, namely the ORs time, beds and nurses, considered in the model. The constraints are classified into four groups: ORs time capacity constraints (4)-(5), beds capacity constraints (6)-(7), nurses' capacity constraint (8) and demand bounds constraints (9)-(10). Constraint (4) indicates that the total required surgery time for each patient category cannot exceed the assigned hours to this patient category. Constraint (5) guarantees that the total hours dedicated to all patient categories cannot exceed the ORs' total available working hours per week. Constraint (6) denotes that the bed occupancy for each of patient categories cannot exceed its allocated capacity.
