The reading assignments for this week has been very educative about the environment and making it a better place for living. In this written assignment, I will examine some of the ethical issues related to population growth and their effect to the environment. Also, I will propose solutions to these problems base on the reading material available for this Unit. But before I continue, I wish to introduce us to environmental ethics and its definition which I think it is very important for us to understand so as to know our role to play in this beautiful planet. Environmental ethics is the discipline in philosophy that studies the moral relationship of human beings to, and also the value and moral status of, the environment and its non-human contents
Many of us are concerned about the future of our planet and unless we can find a way of solving the problems then the environment will suffer. Everyone of us can do something to help slow down some of the damage. We cannot leave the problem-solving entirely to the experts – we all have a responsibility to our environment. We must learn to live in way that will sustain our world like learn to use our natural resources which include air, freshwater, forests, wildlife, farmland and seas without damaging them or wasting
Sustainability helps us also improve our environment by helping us understand exactly what we need to do in order to have it prospers from what we have now. Sustainability is to capacity to endure and to continue something- kind of like a circle, forever going on and
In conclusion, The Lorax is an essential tool in understanding “The Tragedy of the Commons.” The Lorax depicts what Garrett Hardin wrote in his essay. There may not be a sure fire way of saving the world from ourselves, but if we are willing to act as a whole we could potentially save the world. Let 's
These various environmental movements have become known as environmentalism” (Truell, Allen “Green Marketing”). There have been different movements in history that had led up to how people react and what they know today. Will not go into them but environmentalism is important to understand. The Merriam-Webster’s definition of environmentalism is “a theory that views environment rather than heredity as the important factor in the development and especially the cultural and intellectual development of an individual or group”(DIC). These groups that the definition mentions are important because they are the consumer, and are getting bigger according to many of the sources in this paper.
A similar movement is “Earth Day” which mainly focuses on the environment and has had much success, so there is no reason why the “Buy Nothing Day” doesn’t have similar results. We people have done a lot of damage and harm to this world, but now it is time to make
We, at LG Electronics, will: 1) Comply with international conventions, standards, and local laws associated with the environment and engage in voluntary activities to improve the environment. 2) Develop and implement a system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, measure and improve the performance of this system, and always make the results available to the public. 3) Identify and meet the needs of green consumers, by promoting the sustainability of our products and stimulating the consumption of greener
This includes being more aware of the environment and what is going on within it, learning the positions of your political leaders and get out and vote for those who best agree with your thoughts on matters, joining organizations that agree with your thoughts on environmental issues, and even consider becoming a leader within such an organization or jumping into the political fray." ” The ways that Dr. Robinson described how we are able to help are spot on. It is very important that we try to do as many of these things that we can. Of course it is hard to do all because living a eco-friendly life takes a large amount of money, but just spreading
Out of all controversial topics, environmental health must be one of the most applicable and relevant topics talked about today. Basically, environmental health is living in a healthy environment. Activists fought for environmental justice because certain living areas resulted in many casualties. Fast forward to today, there is federal law that keeps us safe and for the most part, we all live in healthy environments. There are organizations such as NIEHS (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences) that identify environmental agents that cause illness to guarantee a safe place to live for everyone.
It is well realized that it is education alone that can bring about a change in individuals perceptions, knowledge and understanding, attitudes and values to act for the environment and become environmentally responsible citizens. Environmental education is widely seen as one important strategy for achieving environmental improvement. Environmental Education mainly aims to make people in the society to be aware, knowledgeable and inculcate
Environmental justice is in many ways a safety net used when humanity has destroyed the earth to the point humans no longer can live a healthy life style. This coincides with mother cultures perception. The taker mentality views the world as centered on humanity, for the earth is nothing more than a, “…human life-support system, as a machine designed to produce and sustain human life”(59). In other words, the world is meant to sustain man and nothing more. Therefore, humans do not have to take care of the earth, the earth is meant to take care of humanity.
I grew up in a city called Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Population was approximately 200,000 which is considered the largest city in South Dakota. It was relatively small for me, because I do consider myself a city girl. Growing up in Sioux Falls was rough, the four season weather was always bipolar and you never knew what to expect from it. The city itself is urban, with many tall buildings downtown.
