Everyone has such a consensus that political power will be inevitably accompanied by wealth. Power and money are twin brothers. Therefore, both developed countries and developing countries are faced with corruption and abuse power for personal gains. The power can bring economic benefits for government officials, but for "power rent-seeking", another participant of the game like firms, If they can through friendly choice for the government to get the corresponding political relations to obtain more economic benefits, that means the political relationship has a corresponding "value". If we can research deeply on this question, it maybe can explain the existence of corruption in governments. Companies always establish political relations by providing …show more content…
Enterprise's fundamental purpose is to obtain maximum benefits. Since the exchange of interests with the government public relations can gain more profits, it is reasonable and necessary that enterprises set up a public relations department. In this paper, the author analyzed the political relationship by the quantitative analysis in order to verify the traditional ideas. The author mainly attempts to answer a question: how important that the political relations for companies or other economic organizations. In order to rule out the disturbance of factors such as business mind for measuring political relationship, the author selected Indonesia, a political structure stability and leadership concentration country. In addition, for quantitative analysis, the author selected four types of data:”stock market and accounting data for companies traded on the Jakarta Stock Ex-change (JSX); data on the group affiliations of all JSX firms; a measure of the political dependence of a subset of these firms; and 4) a series of "events" related to the condition of Suharto's …show more content…
In this country, political power is too concentrated. Although it ruled out a certain amount of interference factors for regression, it lead to certain limitations to the explanation of regression results. Comparing the political system in the European and American countries, power won't be completely focused on someone's hand and checks and balances system are more mature. In this case, whether political relations are still the main corporate profits is yet to be proven. You can select several different political system and leadership in countries which have different power and select the enterprise group data to analysis, then you can measure its national enterprise group of earnings for quantitative analysis. Obtained from the analysis of the results may be more interpretative. In addition, if you want to measure the value of political relations, you need to compare the profits getting from the political relations and commercial activities. Instead of simply measuring in the political impact of loss that the enterprise which have political relationships. If compared with for government relations, commercial activities will get more profits. It is not rational that companies will pay more political funding cash for political relations. However, it is a trouble that how to separate the profit gained by the business methods from political
When major companies give a lot of money to a campaign they can feel like that candidate owes them something. They feel like they should have a say or that they are owed favors to because of the money they gave. I believe that sometimes if one person donated a million dollars to a campaign that would get them favors in Washington to a degree if that person is elected. I do think there should be limits on how much a single person can donate to avoid things like this. An example, would be the 1996 U.S. Campaign finance scandal.
Therefore, the public should watch the Koch Industries that make donations to benefit themselves because they are using their enormous financial power to control the American public in secrecy in order to gain more wealth. Koch Industries is one of the biggest companies in the world. When Fred Koch whose sons were Frederick, Charles, Bill and David founded koch company, he started it as just a oil business. However, the oil business became enormous success after he worked with Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler each in Soviet union and Germany to help them build oil factories. Working in the Soviet Union and Germany in 1920’s to 1940’s ideologically influenced Fred Koch undoubtedly since Jane Mayer states in her book that “Fred Koch’s political views were apparently shaped by his traumatic exposure to the Soviet Union.”
We, as colonists, have just exited a time of strife and conflict that has not been paralleled so far in our New World. The followers of Nathaniel Bacon have assaulted native villages, causing the death of an untold amount of men women and children, not bringing into account the starvation sure to follow once winter descends on the land. While many of the settlers do not approve of this drastic action, it has shown us the corruption in the Virginian government that must be addressed. In Bacon’s “The Declaration of the People”, he points out that our governor is guilty of “having wronged his Majesties prerogative and interest, by assuming Monopoly of the Beaver trade” .
Politicians who avoided taking strong positions on whether they were pro or anti-trust were seen as cowards who would rather cater to big business than ensure the welfare of citizens. However, politicians were also reluctant to take action because they were being influenced by these corporations. A political illustration that arose at this time titled “The Bosses of the Senate”, demonstrates the ease at which monopolists were able to influence political decisions - or lack thereof (Document 3). The illustration depicts several industries-copper, steel, oil, iron, and coal- as bags of money hovering over senators at their desks. During this era, monopolists were able to buy state legislatures, which directly appointed senators to congress, and controlled which senators were in office through bribery, intimidation, and threats.
Sometimes, government officials and railroad companies would not work together, but still use each other for success, even if it meant the failure for one party. For example, if a company failed, creditors could take everything from the owner. Congressmen were often found guilty of accepting bribes, but most accepted bribes nevertheless because the risk of getting caught was minimal while the profits were
Detroit: Is Now Known as the Better City Detroit is now known as the better city. Change is the act or instance of making or becoming different. Detroit: An American Autopsy,LeDuff talks about how many things in Detroit changed, some changed for better, but others changed for the worst. In many years, Detroit went through Difficult times, but is still trying to fix all the problems and the corruption.
During the early 19th Century, corruption was prevalent throughout the United States. Working conditions were unsafe and many were dying of illness and disease, though wages were still extremely low, causing poverty. Trusts took over the economy and the gap between the rich and the poor greatly expanded. A new political party, the Progressive Party, emerged and had many different ideas to solve these issues. They wanted to get rid of corruption in the government and minimize the gap between the economic classes.
The reason for companies wanting to dip their toes into the waters of politics was that if they could control the ability to write and pass new laws, they would be able to expand their capital and grow their business through new laws and legislature. One example of the overwhelming governmental power that a corporation can hold is that of the “third house” of the Pennsylvannian government, which was comprised of railroad representatives in Pennsylvania. It was said that these non-elected railroad heads commanded just as much power as the genuinely elected officials. Another way that companies would gain power in the political sector was by holding their own elections that they had rigged in their own favor. Another form of corruption in the government at this time was not actually orchestrated by companies from the outside, but perpetrated by law makers on the inside.
Big powerful special interest groups have interfered with politicians’ decision to do what’s right; it appears that the political system has become corrupted and money plays a big role in their decision and money is very influential in getting the legislators to pass bills. One would believe that our politicians are making the battles between the political parties personally; it appear that if the parties don’t agree with another, they resort to drastic measures such as shutting down the government causing more hardship on
During the 1877 through 1920 the government's role wasn't really expanding, instead people were getting furious that the government weren't really doing anything to improve life so they started going on strikes, making unions, and bringing people of different cause together to try to force the government into being useful. However, this only led to political corruption, people saying they would do something to help the people and people would believe and put their trust into this "person" to only be blackmailed in the end. These "people" were called political bosses and they had their little organization or political machines and people would do them favors to gain jobs or etc. This growing "government" was a mixed bag for the American people,
Corruption occurs in a government when politicians are bought out by private companies. These companies would pay the politicians large sums of money and in return, the politicians would do political favors for the companies. According
Seems like that 's kinda hard to believe. Some people see nothing wrong with the way corporations lobby. Corporation have been able to lobby forever so why is it a big deal now right? Well nowadays corporations are allowed to give money to people in political positions (Secular Talk). Once given the money the person in power would do favors for the business (Stealing From America).
Public relations practitioners are faced with many challenges when it comes to abiding to the code of ethics in public relations, and making sure that they are accountable to the interest of the community, their clients and employers. In most situations these three groups of people have different expectations, values and beliefs, hence realistically it is very difficult to achieve perfect symmetry. As a result, practitioners are faced with many ethical dilemmas, as the area of ethics is a grey area. The definition of ethics explained by Parsons (2008) stated that public relations ethics is the application of knowledge, understanding and reasoning to questions on what is that right or wrong behaviour in professional practice of public relations.
3. Mass Media Relations (the Press) with the Government Press and government are interdependent with each other. The press and society are the same. The press is impossible to live and thrive in an area without any government and society. Because the territory without regulatory power and so-called government, will tend to be a jungle for the human wolves that inhabit it.
This brings them to either compete with each other or to engage in collusions, which is to club together to maximise own profits, like a win-win
