FAMILY PLANNING FROM ISLAMIC PERSPECTIVES
This topic has been a hot issue from Islamic view and there are numbers of Islamic scholars who had done their research in this matter and had presented their findings regarding on this current problem. The scholars were debating about the permissibility of family planning in Islam towards the ummah as this concern has related with the affirmation of Muslim’s faith.
The institution of marriage and the desire to have children was the custom of the best of creation, the Prophets and Messengers chosen by Allah. This is clearly stated by Prophet Muhammad sollallahu alaihi wasallam in his hadith, when he told those companions who were considering a harsh form of life. His saying, “"I pray and I sleep; I fast and I break my fast; and I marry women. Whoever turns away from my way of life is not from me." Besides that, the Prophet not only encouraged marriage but also inspired to marry those women who are child-bearing. This can be seen from the hadith, that he stated, "Marry the loving, child-bearing women, for I shall have the largest numbers among the Prophets on the day of Resurrection." These programme focusing on human development and gives a holistic framework in slowing population growth that will effect in improving’s lives. Furthermore, these programme also being calls for other purposes such as to improve health, education and rights especially for women and children, besides provide family planning services in the context of comprehensive reproductive health care. Undoubtedly, the programme is aiming using the safe and reliable family planning methods.
As the secularization of Western society and scientific research gained momentum during the modern period, knowledge of reproduction increased and was applied to control human population growth. We know various methods of contraception and their development through the years from the ancient ideas to the modern era are presented such as birth control and assisted reproductive technology, like surrogacy.
