The ideology of slavery still exists, whether we notice it or not, but it is covered up by our institutions and enforced through a systematic way to manipulate one. These systems are in place by society to enforce an order. We are built on the notion of a hierarchy class system where white men are constructed to be superior by asserting their dominance and oppressing people of color. Suppressing one can be done by using aggression. Aggression is a tactic used to implement change for a specific cause, and although it is seen in many shapes and forms it helps bring awareness, while also building steps to adjustment an issue.
The person who ended up with the lead position of the group of outcasts from Poker Flat was John Oakhurst, who led them on their trek. When everyone else wanted to stop and rest, he urges them to continue the long journey which they still have ahead of them. Oakhurst’s gambling, which is the reason that he was banned from Poker Flat in the first place, is a warning to his fellow outcasts to not throw up their hands and quit before the game is even fully played out. This is because heavy snow was expected on their journey to the next town. His motivation and inspirational attitude helps everyone cope with the difficulty of the situation that they are in.
It was under the most delicate of circumstances, when I realized what I was born to do for the rest of my life. It was march 2007, my grandfather was suffering from pneumonia and due to his deteriorating condition he was hospitalized. I had flown in from Toronto to be by his side. Sitting anxiously by his bedside with tears in my eyes wondering if I could do anything to make my grandfather feel better, I watched doctors come and go , updating us on his blood reports, EKGs, chest x-rays, ABGs, and at the same time constantly counseling my concerned family members. As they explained what they were doing to bring my grandfather to the path of recovery, I watched in utter fascination.

The short story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” by Joyce Carol Oates can be interpreted in a multitude of ways due to its ambiguity. A psychological lens, however, provides the most accurate viewpoint for analyzing the story as it clarifies certain obscure scenes and actions of Connie. One psychological issue of Connie that is easily inferred from the beginning of the story is her insecurity about her looks. Connie constantly worries about the way that she looks and takes any opportunity to do so, “craning her neck to glance into mirrors or checking other people's faces to make sure her own was all right” (1).
The movie Inside Out is about 11-year-old Riley who lives in Minnesota with her Mom and Dad. What makes this film so unique is that the story is ultimately about Riley’s emotions, Sadness, Anger, Anxiety, Disgust, and of course, Joy. The audience experiences Riley’s life through the lens of Joy, the protagonist. Joy’s primary goal was to keep Riley and most of her memories happy, but when the family moved from their home in Minnesota to California, Riley’s emotions started acting differently, specifically Sadness. For example, Sadness touched a memory, and subsequently became tainted with sadness, which greatly troubled Joy.
I have always been unsure when it comes to a choosing a career for myself. Whether it be a nurse, a doctor, a counselor, or even an engineer, I have never been able to come to a compromise on the “right” career path.
