One of the questions brought up in class was how the soldaderas related to La Malinche or Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the idea that came to my mind was that both the soldaderas and Our Lady of Guadalupe both pushed the Mexican culture forward. An example that Salas points out is the issue regarding the food that the soldiers ate. Salas states that the American soldiers would eat food that the cooks would make in mess halls. The Mexican soldiers refused to eat the food and soon the United Statians realized that the soldiers would only eat the soldadera’s Mexican food.
