The McCord media center has so many amazing books, but some have never been touched. For example Running Scared. This book has an amazing story that needs to be read. Running scared is a novel about Larrry Hudson a quarterback who has the best arm in the state.
Though WWII ended in 1945, countless American war veterans were still torn with mental illnesses, and over 40% of all enlisted men during the war were discharged because of traumatic psychiatric conditions. The story of Unbroken speaks about the life of a man named Louis Zamperini, an American olympic athlete in long distance running, who eventually was captured as a POW by the Japanese in the pacific front of WWII. This story, in both a novel and movie, defines years of trauma and suffering overcome by perseverance and determination. Throughout the story, the theme of suffering is displayed as the undergoing of extreme pain and hardship, whether it be mentally or physically. The motif of darkness that fully consumes Tom reveals his current emotional state as the bleakness of the situation leaves Tom feeling unable to deal with the situation, highlighting how the confronting nature of the transition has left Tom with a depressed perspective of the situation. However, Tom gains a new perspective of his situation which is evident through the motif of running, which gives him time to talk about dealing with his problems with his uncle, Brendan. The motif of running is therapeutic for Tom as he learns to overcome his fear of facing the past and allowing himself to let go of burdens that come with it. “I’d zone out, the weight of my thoughts shredding with each kilometre, like layers of skin falling onto the track, leaving an empty shell”, the imagery of Tom’s skin leaving a shell on the ground highlights that through his relationship with Brendan and their therapeutic sessions running, he has been able to put the past behind him and grow to develop a new perspective. Furthermore, Tom’s relationship with Chrissy is the final stage of Tom’s emotional recovery, allowing him to become himself again.
Thomas the main character in The Maze Runner by James Dashner is brought to a strange place that he has never been before. He has no idea how he got there or why he is there so naturally, he is confused and scared. He is treated differently than everyone else that is already there and nobody will tell him what is going on or answer any of his questions. He is bullied and people put a label on him because he arrived differently than everyone else did. He is accused of being a spy for the people that put him there even before he could introduce himself.
In the film, The Maze Runner, by director Wes Ball, Thomas Greene arrives in the Glade in the center of a maze where he meets a group of boys. He has no memory of his previous life and quickly joins the group. He becomes a runner after quickly identify the clues of the maze that gives hope to the boys and Teresa that they can get out of the maze alive. To start off thomas from the maze runner series is the main character. He has several conflicts within the scorch trails that are both internal and external conflicts. This essay however is about internal conflicts between thomas and himself. The first place you can see this is when a big storm hits, and Minho is struck by lightning.
It might seem like “Stray” and “The Maze Runner” are two very different books, because one is about a girl who’s dog has to be taken away, and one is about a boy who is locked up in a maze, but once you look closer you can tell that both stories have a bit in common. In these stories, The characters realize you have to be brave to make it through tough times. First of all, in “Stray”, Doris has to stay brave. Doris doesn’t get to keep her dog so they have to bring it to the pound. She had to stay brave and that was really hard because she always wanted a dog and it just walked out of her reach.
In the dystopian book The Maze Runner by James Dashner, Thomas wakes up in the box with no memory of anything but his name. Then, he was in the Glade. The Glade is the central part of the maze. When Thomas sees the doors, he knows he has to be a runner. Thomas has to find way to survive a night with the grievers; sluglike monsters with chainsaws and other deadly instruments as appendages.
He has to go thru a lot in this book just to survive but he never stops trying each day he got up and did what was necessary to survive another day. You could learn a lesson from this book never stop trying one day something good will
A Deeper Look into The Hobbit The challenging and dangerous adventure of the hobbit and the dwarfs. The novel The Hobbit written by J.R.R Tolkien is about a lonesome hobbit by the name of Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo and some dwarf are sent off on a dangerous mission. They must take back the treasure that is lying in a mountain far away were a very angry dragon lye's awaiting them. They must overcome many challenging tasks to get to the mountain, including goblins, spiders, elves, and much more.
Many people have hard times in their lives. Instead of folding over, thomas and sam made difficult choices and had to persevere through the hardest times to succeed. In the book “Gone”, the characters do it by themselves, but they can’t trust everyone and might have to fight against each other and survive. On the other hand in the book “Maze Runner” the people need a lot of teamwork to overcome the hard times and escape and survive. Both author’s teach us that we have to persevere through hard times in different and same ways.

The novel,The Maze Runner,is set in a small plot of fertile land surrounded by a massive concrete maze,and in the small plot of fertile land there were boys that lived there who named themselves: The Gladers. The maze fills the nature archetype of the wilderness. The archetype of the wilderness suggests a difficult or trying time in the character’s life, where they are unsure of themselves and the purpose of their existence. The wilderness often takes form in a type of test that they must pass to get whatever they are looking for. In the novel, the Gladers remain trapped inside the maze without any memory of how they were placed in the maze and more importantly why were they were put in the maze.
The book was suspenseful; it kept drawing me in for more, each and each day. The book really enlightened me because the suspense and action kept my mind thinking and racing with thoughts that I thought I could connect to the book and make predictions on the future events in the book. The themes between my paragraphs were basically saying you have to look at the bigger picture of the story, just like Thomas did in the maze. The theme of my essay correlates with my title. What I mean about ‘running the maze’ is that to get through the maze you have to look at the bigger picture and find a solution.
