1. Mr. Utterson represents the perfect gentleman. He consistently seeks to maintain the peace, does not gossip, and protects his friends’ reputations as though they were his own. Even though he thinks his friend, Dr. Jekyll is being blackmailed or maybe even harboring a murderer, he chooses to sweep what he thinks he has learned under the rug. I think he is afraid he might ruin his good friend if he voices his thoughts. 2. Good vs. evil seems to be the novel’s theme. The question that needs to be answered is “Which is greater?” Since Mr. Hyde seems to be taking over, one could argue that evil is stronger than good. However, when Mr. Hyde ends up dead at the end of the story, it might indicate there is a weakness in evil. What we need to know
