As human beings, we all face struggles and challenges that threaten to hold us back from achieving our goals and finding happiness. In the novel "The House on Mango Street" by Sandra Cisneros, the vignette of "Alicia who sees mice" is a powerful example of the different ways individuals pursue or compromise their happiness. The character of Alicia represents the struggles and challenges faced by young women in a male dominated society, and her story highlights the importance of perseverance, passion, and sacrifice in achieving personal fulfillment. It is important to highlight the significance of perseverance, passion, and sacrifice in achieving personal fulfillment because these qualities are essential for individuals to overcome the obstacles and challenges that they may encounter in their pursuit of happiness, especially in a male dominated society.
The issue with the american dream is that it is not always true. Some things are unachievable for some people. People have to face discrimination for things such as race, ethnicity, and income level. These things, unfortunately, can influence how successful people are. An example is someone who comes from a lower income family is less likely to go to college as someone from a wealthy family.
The American Dream is deeply valued by American society. Per-contra, it is also deeply questioned. The American Dream is “the belief that anyone, regardless of where they were born or what class they were born into, can attain their own version of success in a society where upward mobility is possible for everyone” (Investopedia.com). Although Americans value it and hold onto it, it may not even be achievable. If the American Dream is, in fact, unachievable, then what prevents it from being accomplished?
Many americans are not able to become rich or even middle class in this day and age. Many Americans aren't given the opportunity to make money and save to the point of becoming rich or middle class. The American Dream is not achievable due to the racist, classist, and sexist views, perspectives and actions of Americans in society today. The American Dream is not achievable due to racism and segregation that play a heavy influence in living the American dream.
Many Americans work numerous long days with extended hours in order to achieve this goal. What separates people who achieve the dream and people who do not achieve it? The American dream is real but what many found is that it is not attainable to everyone due to the lack of education and financial status within their upbringing. The American dream is not attainable to everyone because of the lack of education.
Impossible Dreams The meaning of the American Dream can be seen as ”A uniquely American vision of the country consisting of three central ideas. The American dream consists of a belief in America as the new Eden- a land of beauty, bounty, and unlimited promise; a feeling of optimism, created by ever expanding opportunity; and a confidence in the triumph of the individual.” Using this definition of the so called “American dream”, it seems to be a great representation of it at first, until you realize it includes everyone as the individual. From the beginning of the Civil war to the end of the War to End All Wars, the American Dream wasn’t possible due to the treatment of the Native Americans, the inequality between women and men, and the false promises given to the immigrants coming to our country in their time of need.
It is not attainable for all groups of people for many reasons. For example, according to the video “Who Poisoned Flint, Michigan” "99,00 people were affected/ poisoned with the lead contamination of their water." Also if you 're an hard working person the chances are that you will make your American dream come true. But if you think that you can attain your american dream by not working hard, it is not said that all the american dreams should be identical. American dreams can vary from bring more than rich and living in a big house to an expensive car.
The current event that I feel affects today 's American Dream is high priced homes on the Market. I think that this is affecting the American Dream because infiltration of the house prices skyrocketing. The price of homes is so high because of the law of supply and demand, and the economy in San Diego. Houses being this high in price is forcing people to downgrade and live in a different neighborhoods. I think we can all agree part of the American Dream is to own your own home.

The American dream is always an opportunity for anyone in this world, but the way they you achieve the dream is what really matters. Anyone seeking the American dream has a lot of work on their hands. Some people want this dream because in their own country they do not have safety or freedom. Some people also wants this dream because in their lives they do not have happiness, so they look towards this "dream" to help them financially.
The American Dream has the nationality ethos of the United States. It is a collection of goals that everyone born in America has freedom, equal opportunity for prosperity and upward social mobility. They can achieve through hard work in a society with few obstacles. However, the fact is cruel. Nowadays, America’s economic inequality is growing.
Challenges create opportunities for one to discover their passions. My parents’ ideal for my obtaining the American dream was not as easily achieved as one would hope. I faced many obstacles on my journey which molded me into the person that I am today; a reliable, responsible and ultimately compassionate individual. Still, the journey was not traversed, without its difficulties. One such difficulty stands out as milestone in my development.
The American Dream begins with an affordable living arrangement and a good job, but with remorse, these two pieces are not connecting (Thompson, 2014). A college graduate can expect expensive housing with a job not reflective of the high housing price. In an article published in The Atlantic, “Why it’s So Hard for Millennials to Find a Place to Live and Work” Derek Thompson talks about the inequality between upward mobility and the housing market. For example, Dayton has one of the most affordable housing markets in the United States, however unlike California there is no social mobility (Thompson, 2014). The American dream is different for everyone and changes the course of action an individual may take.
