The attack on Pearl Harbour was a catalyst event for America’s entry into World War Two. This concentrated bombing from the Japanese Empire forced America into war, which is commonly referred to as ‘awakening the sleeping giant’. Pearl Harbour, the film, concentrates on two men and a nurse in the United States’ Navy/Air Force and their roles in the historic Pearl Harbour ambush. They have an argument, which escalates into a fight. They two men jump into a car together, drive a while and then pass out.
The next morning, the Japanese begin the attack on Pearl Harbour, dropping torpedos and bombs on the US fleet. The loud explosions wake up Danny and Rafe, who drive to the closest airfield. After a struggle to make it to a plane, the pair of men get off the ground and shoot down some enemy fighters. Meanwhile, Evelyn and the other nurses at Pearl Harbour battle to get to the hospital, all the while being bombed. Upon arrival, Evelyn is shocked to see so many people wounded but gets to work right away.
President Roosevelt gives his famous ‘Day of Infamy’ speech and declares war on the Empire of Japan the day after the attack. Danny and Rafe begin to prepare to bomb Japan, but before leaving for the top secret mission, Evelyn reveals to Rafe that she is pregnant with Danny’s child. The bombing run was successful but they crash on the edge of China, which has Japanese troops ready to kill the American pilots. Soon after emerging from the plane, Danny is shot and dies quickly.
