Since the late 20th century, postpartum depression has affected “about 20% of women after giving birth” (Kalat 2008, pg. 440), but truly many more women than that suffer from this kind of depression. Postpartum depression can be moderate or severe in these women – whether it occurs up to three months after delivery of all the way up until a year after giving birth.
