For one example, Hurricane Harvey. People from all over the world were able to help the citizens that got hit by hurricane Harvey. Through all of the fundraising, thirty-seven million dollars was raised for the victims of the hurricane, which shows that many people are not selfish. And last but not least, people of northern Texas were able to help and show that they are not selfish by taking in whole families during the recovery of Hurricane Harvey.
Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin also known from her pseudonym George Sand, once said “charity degrades those who receive it and hardens those who dispense it.” Those who give to others solely believe they are helping for the greater good. While those receiving more or less don’t reciprocate the same gratitude. It comes from human nature to believe deep down to help others less fortunate than one. Generosity spreads to those in need creates gratitudes to those who dispense.
Pre-APPE Reflection Jinwon Byun I take an opportunity to come to Lawndale Christian Health Center for my APPE elective rotation because of many reasons. Last year, I volunteered to serve some STEPS sessions. STEPS is a student based organization that serves the underserved communities in Dayton, Ohio. I did general health screening, including blood pressure and blood glucose check, and brief interviews.
I 'm writing this essay because i am interested in becoming a red cross volunteer and would love the opportunity to experience volunteering at Walter Reed Hospital. I was in this program last year and i was put in the Radiology department and it was really great experience i was exposed to so much and i learned so much last year. I want to be in this program again because when i get older i want to work in a hospital and although i learned so much last summer there is still a lot i can learn, see and experience. I got the chance to work in breast imaging where I improved my communication and computer skills thats where i mostly spent my time at.
I am sure that you all have been told to give back, but have you done it? A lot of ourselves make a promise that we ae going to do something good. Most of us don 't do it. In the short stories "Thank you Ma 'am" by Langston Huges and "Upon the Waters" by Joanne Greenberg, the main characters are people who sympathize with others and give back because they have been there. Both stories center around the theme of giving back by doing what you can because you know what they are going through.

Daniel lives out the first of the five Sacred Heart Goals, “A Personal and Active Faith in God.” This goal has a strong focus on recognising the importance of showing love, faith and compassion for Jesus Christ and God through prayer and reflection. Daniel had a “Personal and Active Faith in God” which he demonstrated successfully through his faithfulness towards God, Christianity and most importantly his people. Daniel’s personal and active faith was conveyed through his significant messages and visions that had important meanings and warnings for the future.
If we sympathize with them, we will offer kindness and at the same time a gracious connection is made. This is the positive power that each of us possess. Moreover, this is the most powerful act of generosity because true generosity is pure and giving any without expectation and no demand to be repaid. Random acts of kindness are the essential and vital to human well-being as they set us free from isolation, egoism and selfishness. In response, such demeanour is definitely the base of a healthy and joyful society where everyone willingly and happily reaches out to help another person and such an action is delightedly received.

Today we live in a world where nothing is free, and many people have an expectation on receiving something in return when they provide some sort of service for someone. However, society is helping create a norm of altruism by asking, advertising, and announcing situations when selfless acts are performed. Altruism behavior consists of being selfless and wanting to help others in need, without feeling obligated. Several psychologists define altruism as “a motivational state with the ultimate goal of increasing another’s welfare” (Batson, 1981). Thanks to the media, we are able to witness people demonstrating concerns for the welfare and well-being of others which has helped the encouragement for people to have altruistic behavior.
If you aren’t helping, what are you doing? Some people today, are being “generous” for all the wrong reasons: to fulfill volunteer hours or to set an image. We need people to check their moral intentions before believing they are “helping” the community. In other words, people cause more damage to others when having the wrong intentions when it comes to charitable work. If we don’t, we create a society that pities those who suffer in order create a positive image for an individual.
