Middle Schoolers should have a bed time. They are constantly busy doing sports or homework which means they need their sleep. Sleep is very important. Middle Schoolers need to be healthy and do well in sports/school. Sometimes it is hard for Middle Schoolers to get to bed on time because they have a lot of things going on. They can’t always go to bed on time but, they need to try to as much as possible. Parents always want their Middle Schoolers to go to bed on time but they can’t always do that because of sports or school. They are extremely busy most days and can’t get to bed on time. But, they still should have a bed time, they are constantly busy with sports or homework but they still need to get sleep as much as possible.
Sleep debt is a major problem, not just amongst college students but all Americans. We as working individuals lead such busy lives that just don’t include time for resting. Although we may perceive sleep as a ‘necessary evil,’ it’s actually one of the most beneficial things we can provide for our bodies. More often than not, however, we fail to attain the essential hours needed to properly function. People receive an average of six hours of sleep per night- about four hours less than recommended total according to James Maas. It’s almost become a sort of de rigueur amongst adults, many of whom work multiple jobs. “‘At any given time, the American sleep debt totals nearly half a billion hours or close to two hours every night for the average American,’” (Maas 6). Sleep debt, or the paucity of sleep accumulated over time, can be linked to an increase of car crashes, the vast majority of which are caused by drivers under the age of 25.
Most of us in this class will say that we not get enough sleep because of all assignments, lab reports and so on like just now. So, we called this situation as sleep deprivation which means a condition where people not get enough sleep. We are in the same shoes, so no worries. A research from Brown University stated that, from a survey they conducted to a group of college student, 11% student have a good sleep but the rest which is 73% from the same study were found to have a sleep problem. Despite all of these academic stuff that we need to finish up, it is actually important for all of us to care more about sleep.
Scientists and Researchers have itemized that an estimated six to nine hours of sleep are necessary for a plentiful night’s rest, although, this is not the case for a vast majority of Americans (Fisher np). Less than one-third of high school students claim to get over eight hours of sleep per night, let alone nine (Fisher np). Theresa Fisher exclaimed that nearly 70-million people living in the United States undergo sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation is the condition of not having enough sleep and can be acute or
We all know this; waking up to a blaring alarm or an annoyed parent. You try to bury yourself in sheets and protect yourself from the harsh light. You drag yourself out of bed with hair blown to one side of your head. Walking across the hall like an extra from “The Walking Dead,” you eat breakfast and brush (or the other way around) and throw on some clothes. You head out and start another miserable morning. This is pretty much how I start every school morning. This is probably how a lot of you start your mornings. There’s no worse way to start a day of school than to wake up with a case of “Zombie Daze Syndrome” (ZDS). One might say that waking up tired isn’t that bad, but it is way,
The article I chose is "Why is Sleep Important?" by Michael Twery. I found the article on the U.S Department of Health & Human Services website. The article starts with the fact that 35 percent of adults report getting less than seven hours of sleep during a 24 hour period. I cannot say that I am surprised by that number, I know a lot of family and friends that struggle with falling asleep and staying asleep. I have an under active thyroid and I believe that I why I struggle with sleep. 15-20 percent of US adults have a chronic condition that effects sleep. A recent study in sleep health showed that a good nights sleep or lack of sleep is related to maintaining brain health and cognitive function and overall improves your well-being.
State Thesis & Main Points: Having trouble sleeping can cause you not to function as efficiently, but there are ways to help
“As a result, most adolescents are very sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation will impact on many aspects of your teenagers functioning” (Nationwide Children’s)
Alan Derickson discusses the issue of sleep deprivation and the importance of wakefulness in the United States and more particularly the United States armed forces during and after World War II. Derickson begins with the move from daytime warfare to nighttime warfare as a main cause of the sleep deprivation in American soldiers. The increase in technology in the early 20th century and the enemies on the Pacific front are two main causes for nighttime warfare. Attacks and missions had started to be carried out during the night under the cover of darkness, requiring soldiers to sacrifice their sleep for that time. This increase in activities had also turned the support and maintaining missions into overdrive costing these individuals valued
“Like good diet and exercise, sleep is a critical component to overall health,” (“How Much”). Sleep is an essential to every person's’ health. Especially young kids. A better sleep schedule comes with an stable immune system, an increase in healthy growth, and also better blood-sugar levels and a decreased risk of obesity. There have also been improvements in attendance, alertness, and student-reported depression. Advantages for teens to get the current amount of sleep include; higher GPAs and a lower risk of drowsy driving. (Snider) With the constant need to be awake during the day, and well through the night, adults and teens alike rely on
Sleep deprivation is the lack of sleep needed to function to full potential. While college is known for staying up all night, and cramming for exams, this term of sleep deprivation is starting to take a serious toll. Over the years the sleeping patterns of students attending college and universities has changed dramatically. Studies show that as time goes on the average night of sleep students are getting is decreasing drastically (Jensen, 2003). The way students are falling into this lack of sleep are by forming an irregular sleep-wake cycle, which consists of getting little to no sleep during the week, then on weekends catching up on all the missed sleep. By continuing this cycle the average college student has nearly twice the sleeping

These causes lead to some deadly diseases and an effect on the normality of the cognitive function. However, that does not mean you cannot fix sleep deprivation, as reducing bad habits and relieving stress are considered solutions that can help teachers and students with sleep deprivation. In addition, what is clear is that many people are sleep deprived in these days because of their job’s demands; however, thinking that sacrificing sleep for work to improve an individual’s performance is wrong, as improving your health by sleeping well will result in a better life style and a better performance in your job. At the end of all that it should be clear that there is a crucial choice that everyone should make. Either your life and wellbeing or your
