For this week’s journal I chose the film, Straight Outta Compton starring Jason Mitchell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, and Paul Giamtti. This film was released in 2015 and was written by Jonathan Herman and Andrea Berloff. The screenplay in this film holds true to the three act structure, without trying to give away too much details, at the beginning you meet every character and get a sense of what they are going through in their everyday lives such as Ice Cube being harassed by the police on his way home, Dr. Dre’s trouble at home with this mother and baby mama drama or Eazy-E almost getting killed during a drug deal. It gives the background of the character’s lives before they became mega stars and how they got together to take the music world by storm. …show more content…
Dre who is a disc jockey along with DJ Yella at an outdated club, tries to encourage Eazy-E to trade in his drug dealing occupation to get into the music business, after playing a tract that it disapproved by the club owner, they get fired. This leads to the second act when Eazy-E records a record written by Ice Cube which became known as one of the biggest west coast rap hits over all time, Boyz N Tha Hood. This is something that takes Eazy-E’s career to brand new heights and in turn takes the rest of the characters with him. The act two comes when Ice Cube, who is no longer happy with the management, leaves the group and goes on to become a solo artist which ultimately inspires Dr. Dre to do the same. Act three comes when Dr. Dre leave Death Row and Eazy-Z mends his relationship with Ice Cube after finding out that the concerns that Ice Cube and Dr. Dre were having had been
The film Boyz N’ the hood follows the lives of a group of young African American men growing up in the hood where poverty, crime and violence are rampant. The three main characters are Darin (Dough boy), Ricky (Darin’s brother), and Tre. In this this film there are many schools of criminology’s that help explain the roots of the criminality portrayed.

Boyz in the Hood, a film written and directed by John Singleton presents a look into the lives of three young males living the Crenshaw ghetto of Los Angeles. The film focuses on the struggles which beset these young men as they try to build a life for themselves in this hostile environment. Presented are themes of family, racial discrimination violence among several others. However, what stands out is the role of the decent daddy played the character, Furious Styles.
Illinois representative Aaron Schock is resigning after falling into an ethics embarrassment. Whenever there’s an ethics shocker on the Hill there’s a call for tighter ethics rules, or more stringent ethics training for members of Congress and their staffs. But the case of Illinois Rep. Aaron Schock shows that there’s just no regulating common sense.
Chapter two in the textbook Reflect & Relate an Introduction to Interpersonal Communication by Steven McCornack talks all about what “self” is and how to achieve complete fulfillment for one’s self which is also known as self-actualization. The components of self, as described in the book are, “ . . . self-awareness, self-concept, and self-esteem” (McCornack 39). Self-awareness is the idea in which one can take a moment to move feelings, beliefs, and other external influences aside and just evaluate oneself in a holistic perspective that is not skewed by opinions of others, etc. Having the ability to actually think about who one is brings a lot of power and mental stability in such a way that allows for improvement.
Interpersonal relationships can take form in many different ways and are everywhere, such as at the workplace, school, home, and even the grocery store. Interpersonal relationships consist of family, friendship, social, romantic, and online relationships; all of these relationships have one big thing in common: the element of communication. In the movie, The Notebook, the film primarily focuses on the romantic relationship between people named Noah and Allie. Upon meeting Noah, a poor man, and Allie, an upper-class woman, quickly fall in love, however, struggle with maintaining their relationship due to their social differences. The movie displays an array of interpersonal communication concepts, such as the social exchange theory, the declining
Watching the "Fireproof" movie, I was able to distinguish several interpersonal communication problems between the main characters. Interpersonal communication is the methods by which people get involved in the conversation to exchange message, information, and feelings to each other both verbally and non-verbally(Stewart, 2012). Every individual has their ideas and approaches to communicate to others. Our processes of communication display as our behavior which causes either success or failure in relationships.
This theory was made by Michael Argyle (1925- 2002), who was a social psychologist. In the late 1960s he studied social skills, body language, non-verbal communication and interpersonal behaviour. In this study, he found that non-verbal signals can be much more important and useful than verbal communication when trying to trigger peoples’ attitudes and feelings. His research showed and found that the stronger the relationship between the people communicating so with close friends for example the much better eye contact. However, when the relationship is not very strong so when speaking to a stranger people don’t have very good eye contact and they tend to look away when talking.
John Singleton’s film, Boyz N the Hood, displays the challenging upbringing of adolescents who have to live with harsh conditions around not only their home but also their surrounding town. The film compares the differences between the lifestyles of Tre Styles and his friends’, Darren and Ricky Baker. Darren and Ricky are half-brothers who are nothing alike. Singleton demonstrates the importance of male leadership in a home in the ghetto of Los Angeles by comparing the difference between the lifestyles of Tre and his friends. While many adolescents in the hood have close friendships, some form close relationships by assembling gangs and create a world of violence due to alcohol abuse, which together ultimately breeds discrimination.
He explained that all of the movies he watched growing up was surreal to his childhood. Therefore, he started writing the script for Boyz N the Hood (1991), which was loosely based on his childhood and his friends: Tre Style (Cuba Gooding Jr.), Darin Doughboy Baker (Baha Jackson/Ice Cube), and his brother Ricky Baker (DonovanMcCrary/Chestnut). Singleton wanted to release the movie in hopes to bring a new fresh perspective of growing in America that had not been put out to the public. He wanted to educate the public about the inner problems in the battlefield for the African American community in Los
The movie “Boyz N’ the Hood” is a story centered on the issues that are seen in the urban areas of Los Angeles every day. Tre (the main character) is raised in a way that seems to be correct but he still ends up being a part of criminal activity. While watching this film in an academic setting it is easy to see the social and political reform messages that are being communicated to the audience. On the political side it is easy to see the race and ethnicity of the film maker while on the social side the audience can tell the filmmaker is spreading a message. All together “Boyz N’ the Hood” is a very good film that depicts the type of stuff that happens in the poorer parts of Los Angeles.
The film Boyz N the Hood is a story about life in South Central Los Angeles. The film was wrote and directed by John Singleton in 1991. I chose this movie because of its relevance to the course and how it reflects pop culture in that time period. The opening line in the movie “one out of every twenty-one Black American males will be murdered in their lifetime” really catches the audience attention (Nicolaides & Singleton, 1991). This movie goes into detail and shows the life of three young males living in the hood of Los Angeles battling a life surrounded by drugs, violence, and questions of race.

Dre used music as an escape from the tensions and problems of life. He went to house parties and clubs to work the turntables with The World Class Wreckin’ Cru around Los Angeles. In 1986, the young beat maker found Ice Cube and wrote many songs for Ruthless Records, a music label started by a drug dealer known as Eazy-E. This allowed Eazy-E to form the N.W.A. an acronym for N*ggaz With Attitude, with Dre and Cube, releasing their first album in 1987, Boyz N The Hood. A year later with new management under Jerry Heller and Priority Records, N.W.A. delivered Straight Outta Compton, which became a major hit due to its hardcore lyrics and reflection on street life, especially those of "F*ck tha Police," which resulted in the FBI sending a warning note to the NWA suggesting that the group should not promote violence. Dr. Dre’s role in this famous rap group was to produce the music and work as the DJ at the future N.W.A. concerts.
Dre, and DJ Yella were all sitting in a room listening to Dre make music. When the three young men were done, Cube was going home. In the movie, his home was shown to be right across the street. As he walked outside, the police immediately harassed him and told him to get on the ground. A white cop was cursing at him, calling him names, and being all-around rude.
