Since the beginning of time people big or small have made an impact on others. In In Cold Blood Herbert Clutter, farmer and owner of River Valley Farm, and his family were very influential on their small, close-knit hometown of Holcomb, Kansas. Although he was not the richest man in Holcomb, he was by far one of the kindest and one of the hardest working. Along with his wife Bonnie Clutter they had four children; Eveanna, Beverly, Nancy, and Kenyon. Eveanna and Beverly had moved out and started lives of their own, but Nancy and Kenyon still resided with their parents. Nancy was one of the most popular girls in school. She was always kind and willing to help anyone who asked no matter how hard the task. Kenyon was more of an introvert but was still very well liked, kind, and smart. The murder of Herbert, Bonnie, Nancy, and Kenyon by two men, Dick Hickock and Perry Smith, came as a shock to everyone and rocked the small town to its core. He was most known for his “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963 and for being a leader in ending legal segregation against African American’s in the south as well as helping to create the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. These movements caused a change throughout an entire race and an entire country. Even though King was facing constant death threats it did not stop him from fighting for what he believed in.
