Food is an integral part of India’s culture, with cuisines from every nook and corner of the country. India is celebrated for the variety it offers to the food culture of the world. Thus, certain sets of procedures and hygienic practices should be followed to maintain the quality and credibility of our services.
It is obvious and globally acknowledged that unhygienic food and other forms of contamination of our daily consumables have led to millions of deaths around the world, especially in India, where the hygiene practices are flouted openly because of the lack of education and awareness. Globally, because of diarrhea, almost 3-5 billion people die with 1.8 deaths annually, mainly young children because of contaminated food and water.
The phrase “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” which means personal hygiene is the key to godliness, aptly stresses on the importance to maintain clean environs, which will help prevent the spread of diseases. Salmonella, Listeria and other food borne illnesses start from the kitchen. In today’s time, we hear gazillion cases of vegetables being produced artificially and unethically using excessive fertilizers. It is only sensible to wash those vegetables before consuming them. For instance Chicken which carries salmonella, the surfaces where the chicken has rested needs to be disinfected before cooking it. Similarly, a clean salad may be contaminated unless they are washed off properly.
List of reasons which cause Food poisoning-
1. Food prepared too far in advance and stored at room temperature, i.e. not refrigerated.
2. Cooling food too slowly prior to refrigeration.

This becomes a convenience for the food industry as it provides a single window for clearance. However, on the other hand, the stakes have become high and the industry is expected to meet the internationally set standards, which has led to cut throat competition. But, the most stringent addition to the law is the penalty structure. In it, the penalty structure ranges between 50,000 to 10 lakh of rupees. Also, imprisonment can go from six months to even an entire lifetime, based on adulteration and the laws which have been broken.
