What the kkk was doing was main reason why the north got distracted from the reconstruction and how the south had the biggest part in killing the reconstruction. During the efforts of the reconstruction a lot of the south was trying to reject them and it was working. There were mainly two southern groups: the scalawags who supported the reconstruction and the Ku Klux Klan who really hated the idea of the reconstruction and equal rights. (Hook Exercise) The KKK was basically a terrorist group who when around killing congressmen who were for the reconstruction and equal rights. “He was foully murdered by the Ku Klux in the Grand Jury room of the court House.”(Doc A). The KKK also had first class men in their group People like Lawyers, Doctors, and government officials. “ Some are first class men in our town” (Doc B). The North was distracted from the reconstruction by corrupt Officials in grants Administration. Those members of the KKK that were lawyers and stuff were the corruption in grants administration. The south had a lot to do with killing the reconstruction. All but three of the southern states refused help from the reconstruction (Background 505). So the south really did not like the reconstruction and hated the idea of having african americans as equals.

The people on the left side of the spectrum are people like Liberals and Revolutionaries, depending on how far left you go. They favor change. During Reconstruction groups like the Radical Republicans, White Unionists, and Black Freedmen were on the left side of the spectrum. After pushing for an end to slavery these groups wanted to continue in the progress made from the civil war. Radical Republicans wanted the Freedmen to have full rights. Radical Republicans in congress wanted a harsh plan for Reconstruction. Unionists wanted Black Freedmen to have the right to vote so they could have their vote for elections. Have you ever wondered who killed Reconstruction? Reconstruction was a point in time after the Civil War wanting to rebuild the United States. The division between the North and the South was because the North wanted all slaves to be free, on the other hand the South didn’t want slaves to be free the South wanted the slaves to be limited on what they can do. The developments that occured in the United States of America during the Civil War and Reconstruction Era were arguably revolutionary. During these years of 1860 to 1877, not only did social change take place, but also constitutional change. By the end of the Civil War, many aspects were questioned, such as black status and readmission of former confederate states. At the end of it all, three amendments had been ratified and southerners were forced to accept that blacks were their equals. With many changes happening, the constitution had a full revolution by adding three amendments that challenged the beliefs of many, while social changes merely took a step up and didn’t last long.

After the Civil War, a group called the Ku Klux Klan, better known today as the KKK, was formed. This group made it almost impossible for new African American citizens to exercise their rights. This group used physical assault and murder to express their opinion about African Americans at that time.
