On September 5, 1975, Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme a twenty-six-year-old woman. Attempted to end President Gerald Ford's life. The first attempt on Ford's life leading to the second only days later. President Ford entered the California state building in Sacramento. Lynette confronted him in the building with a .45 caliber pistol. Before she could fire one of the four rounds in the gun. A man a part of the secret service tackled her to the ground. At the time Lynette resided with a cult run by Charles Manson. The cult was based solely on the religious teachings of Manson. Teachings that were constructed from science fiction and odd spiritual beliefs. The man was already in prison when the attempt happened. Sentenced to life in prison for several counts of murder and the killing of actress Sharen Tate in 1969. Lynette a female member of the cult was titled respectfully among the group as a “Nun”. She believed that by assassinating Ford she would win Manson's affection. After the attack, Lynette was sentenced to life in prison in west Virginia. convicted on charges of attempted murder. Sara raised a .38 Smith & Wesson handgun. A weapon she had found after the first had been confiscated the day before. Bullet in the chamber she fired at Ford. A man named Oliver “Bill” Sipple a disabled Vietnam veteran and ex-marine. Deflected the shot last second out of reflex. sending the bullet soaring through the air and hitting a bystander. After the shot rang out secret service incarcerated Sara retrieving the handgun. Oliver “Bill” Sipple, unfortunately, didn’t receive recognition from the white house immediately
