In the beginning of the story deja is a guarded,reserved, and shy child who starts to learn about her family’s past.in the the story the author wants us to believe that deja is guarded,shy, and reserved who hides herself in class.this is obvious when we see deja walk into school feeling like she doesn't want to be seen. I know this because she walks into school and sits in the back row and also she removes her pink ribbon from her to draw attention away from her. The reader can see that deja is shy and doesn't want to be noticed or seen by other students.

The author wants us to think that deja is an angry child who’s frustrated at her dad, her home, and her life.when in reality she is a confused child.us the reader can see a clear example when deja tells her father about 9/11 and he freaks out and threatens to make her move schools, deja fights back making the claim this is the only school she ever liked.after that she just cries because she knows she can't win by herself.this conveys the idea that she is frustrated at her father and her life all because of what she knows. But Deja doesn’t know why she has to be punished for that
The support of friends and family can help contribute to a character's ability to overcome difficulties. In The One Safe Place by Tania Unsworth, Devin was able to overcome his problems with the help of his friends and family. Devin's grandfather helps Devin overcome his difficulties throughout the story. At the beginning of the book, Devin was struggling to take care of the farm on his own when his grandfather died and remembered his grandfather once said: "' You'll go there someday too, Dev.' His grandfather had told him 'When you're ready to leave.'"
When Dede is given a choice to join her sister’s revolution, she thinks long and hard about it. She is afraid because she knows that if she thinks about it long enough, between what’s right and wrong, she will eventually agree. Her husband does not allow it. “When he got upset, he would just raise his voice. But that night, he grabbed her by the wrists and shoved her on the bed, only—he said later—to make her come to her senses.

She feels like he doesn’t care. The dad, however, is trying to teach the narrator new words so that she can do well in school. He means well, but he really doesn’t listen to her. Next, they both can’t see the full effect of their actions. the narrator feels like her dad is trying to get her to be always reading and be 100% on top of her schoolwork at all times, but he is really suppressing her, and she doesn’t respond well to this.
Her parents tried to teach her to do the right thing, but it was hard when they continued to show her that doing wrong was okay. Her Father loves his children dearly and wants nothing more than to love them unconditionally like they deserve. He has become an alcoholic and his wife just wasn’t ready to be a mother. He has to force her into loving her family, which leads to him drinking even more. Her father was proud of Jeannette when she came home beat up simply because Jeannette lied and said she’d hurt the other girls worse.

In the story The Glass Castle written and narrated by Jeanette Wall, Rex Wall, the father of 3 children, one being Jeannette, clearly shows his interesting parenting skills. Some are good, some are bad, which puts him and his family through many ups and downs that we see as we read the story. Rex teaches his kids good morals to live by, but in very contradicting ways.
The author portrayed how out of place the girl was by the time she returned. The girl’s encounters at school manifests her loss of identity and her helplessness. Once she returns to school, she finds that the school’s attitude to her has changed. “Perhaps they had never expected us to come back and had put us out of their minds once and for all long ago. One day we were there and the next day, poof, our names had been crossed off the roll books, our desks and lockers, reassigned, we were gone”(Otsuka, 121).

Throughout her life, she is forced into living a life that is not hers, but rather her mom’s vision of a perfect child; because her mother lost everything, which included her parents and kids, so her only hope was through Jing Mei. Jing Mei’s mom watches TV shows such as the Ed Sullivan Show, which gives her inspiration that her daughter should be like the people and actors. First her mom saw how on the television a three-year-old boy can name all the capitals of the states and foreign countries and would even pronounce it correctly. Her mom would quiz Jing Mei on capitals of certain places, only to discover that
