Have you ever wondered who created volleyball? Well the inventor of volleyball was William G. Morgan. Morgan was a leader for players and sports enthusiasts alike. His legacy of volleyball has been very successful being one of the most popular sports in the world. He invented the game and it was a huge achievement as he watched it grow to be favored by many.
William G. Morgan was born in 1870 at Lockport, New York. He spent his childhood years going to a public school and working at his father’s boat yard. In 1891 Morgan went to Mt. Hermon Preparatory School in Northfield, Massachusetts, and that is where he made a friend. His new friend was James A. Naismith, who ,oddly enough, was the originator of basketball. Morgan combined both his love of sports and his creative mind to conjure up a new sport for fitness and fun. In the creation in this sport there has been some ups and downs, but it was executed very well and is now one of the most popular sports in the world because the first two decades following the origin of the game were marked by its rapid spread to Canada, South America, the Orient, Cuba, and Europe..
He has left a legacy because of the sport. It has been played in middle schools and fitness centers. He has earned many achievements such as the William G. Morgan Award that recognizes continuous support and promotion of the national and international growth of the sport of volleyball and the Volleyball Hall of Fame. In 1951 the United States Volleyball Association presented a scroll to George Morgan, William’s son, in memory of his father’s contribution to the world sport. The young Morgan carried out his undergraduate studies at the Springfield College of the YMCA. Ever since he was a child he has been well educated. He met his friend James Naismith ,who was later to become the creator of basketball, who encouraged him to continue his education at the International Young Men’s Christian Association Training
